You’ve moved past the idea that Digital marketing is an isolated department or function, and rather think of it as a discipline that permeates every element of today’s modern marketing organization.

As the VP, Web and Digital Services at VMware, you will be a thought leader and evangelist for the power and possibility of digital marketing strategies and capabilities that drive quality web traffic, shape brand perception through the power of narrative and content experience, build demand and pipeline, and drive SaaS learn-try-buy transactions.

Your role will provide you ownership for a portfolio of channels and platforms (Web, Email, SEO, Organic Social, Community, Blogs), as well as VMware’s Martech.

Additionally, you’ll be a leader for VMware’s digital marketing transformation initiative that empowers partner teams such as Demand Generation, Growth Marketing, and Customer Success to drive rewarding outcomes for customers and growth for VMware.

You will have the opportunity to flex your muscles in digital strategy, operations, and execution, while also bringing in strategic direction and best practices that propel VMware forward as a leader in SaaS digital marketing.

Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

In your first 6-12 months in role, coming up to speed successfully means you’ll have the ability to:

  • Manage a best-in-class Web site experience that advances the company’s strategic brand positioning and narrative and serves as a growth engine for the business as measured by SEO rankings, content engagement, gated content conversions, SaaS trials, and operational site quality metrics.
  • Manage an extensive digital marketing shared services function that provides critical functions at scale to stakeholders across Marketing including: Marketing Automation (Marketo) Management; Email Campaign Management and List Uploads; Digital Audience Pool Creation; Marketing Tech and Operations Support; and more.
  • Lead our SaaS Digital Marketing strategic initiative that will help accelerate VMware’s SaaS transformation, and will be measured by the successful delivery, evangelization, and utilization of capabilities that accelerate SaaS learn-try-buy KPI’s.
  • Manage VMware’s roadmap and portfolio of marketing tools and platforms in partnership with corporate IT and Enterprise Data & Analytics, including the intake, governance, and prioritization of investments that have the greatest strategic benefit and ROI potential as measured by business case KPI’s.
  • Enable VMware’s extensive network of Community, Blog, Organic Social, and Advocacy programs through delivery of platforms, governance and best practice to participating stakeholders through the company (i.e.

    via a hub-and-spoke model).

  • Manage a Globalization function responsible for Globalization and Localization services for content spanning Marketing, Education, Enablement, Launch and other systems supporting GTM teams.

    You will work with stakeholder teams to ensure the appropriate allocation of Globalization spend in accordance with business priorities and ROI expectations.

The Work: What type of work will you be doing?

What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

As an active member of VMware’s Marketing Leadership team, you will:

  • Participate in quarterly and annual strategic planning cycles to establish Marketing priorities for business outcomes and investment
  • Align with Marketing peers to support clear cross-team RASCI, and support a spirit of continuous improvement (aka “Kaizen”)
  • Manage the next phase of corporate website redesign required to promote VMware’s narrative and become a SaaS engine
  • Lead Marketing’s SaaS Digital Marketing transformation initiative to deliver against our goals; evangelize and engage others throughout Marketing to build involvement and buy-in
  • Build productive relationships inside Marketing, and outside with IT, Enterprise Data & Analytics, Legal, Privacy, BUs, etc.
  • Manage key vendor relationships (e.g., Adobe, Agencies, etc.) to ensure optimal performance and ROI
  • Invest in essential team routines that produce a healthy and inclusive culture, including performance management, professional development, succession planning, All Hands, QBRs, celebrations, team bonding

What is the structure and culture of the team like?

The VP, Web and Digital Services will report to Carol Carpenter, VMware’s CMO, and will participate in a leadership team that embraces a “one team” philosophy with a focus on outcomes and continuous improvement.

You will lead an established team with a strong, close-knit culture spanning employees and contractors with the largest hubs in the US and India, with additional team members in other countries throughout AMER, APJ and EMEA.

The expectation is that you will help the team blaze a new trail through a hyper-focus on SaaS transformation and related competency development.

This is a great opportunity for someone who likes to build on top of an already strong base and is energized by change and business transformations. 

Where is this role located?

Flexible: The location of this role is flexible but ideally this executive will be based on West Coast, US – Pacific Standard time.
