Responsibilities

Job Summary:

Reporting to the St.

Josephs Hospital and Medical Center Chief Operating Officer, the VP Operations oversees the ancillary and support service areas in program development, financial and human resources management, quality improvement and maintenance of productivity and quality performance indicators.

Serves as executive sponsor for select St.

Josephs Hospital and Medical Center service lines

Responsibilities:

• Plans and maintains staffing patterns for areas of responsibility, which provide for the implementation of appropriate care on a 24-hour basis.

• Assures competencies of assigned personnel and appropriate staffing through delegated responsibility to Directors and Managers

• Keeps COO, Directors and Managers informed of changes affecting the delivery of patient care.

• Contributes innovative ideas to facilitate and improve patient care, unit operations and organization systems.

• Ensures areas of responsibility have 24-hour administrative coverage to troubleshoot any and all patient care related issues

• Assures implementation of education for patients and families through delegated responsibility to Directors and Managers.

• Oversees the ancillary and support services in program development, financial and human resources management, quality improvement and maintenance of productivity and quality performance indicators.

• Supervises and ensures compliance of staff to safety, infection control and appropriate policies and procedures.

• Initiates and coordinates hospital emergency and disaster plans, as necessary.

• Participates in inter-departmental activities to resolve problems at the lowest possible organization level.

• Develops and implements staff development activities in conjunction with the Education Department through delegated responsibility.

• Serves as a liaison between medical staff and supervised areas.

• Ensures completion of report forms for infections, patient incidents, employee injuries and other necessary forms properly and correctly according to designated time-frames.

Reviews records for completeness and accuracy on a concurrent basis

• Provide administrative support

• Oversees budget preparation for the designated areas and assumes responsibility and accountability for the performance to the budget

• Counsels employees and implements or recommends disciplinary action, as necessary, according to severity of infraction utilizing organization personnel policies and in collaboration with Human Resources

• Recommends and facilitates integration and standardization of processes regionally and system-wide to promote efficient and effective utilization of resources.

• Assumes responsibility for personal, professional development and continuing education.

• Serves as a member of the East Valley Executive leadership Team (ELT)

• Effectively functions as a resource person and role model to staff for clinical and leadership issues.

Develops succession for this position

• Serves on designated Medical Staff and hospital committees, as assigned.

• Maintains knowledge of all applicable standards and regulations determined by accreditation/regulatory agencies to ensure compliance.

Recommends appropriate quality improvement and risk management practices.

• Keeps the Chief Operating Officer and/or President informed of current division activities, problems and actions through oral and written reports

• As a member of the senior management team, provides input and decision-making in strategic plans for service line growth

Qualifications

Minimum:

Experience:

• 7-years of experience in related field

• 5-years management experience 

• Knowledgeable in and accountable for operations of ancillary services.

Education:

MHA, MBA or Masters degree in health care or related field

Effective communications skills with diverse groups, including physicians, managers and employees
