Waukegan Steel, LLC is an AISC certified structural steel fabricator serving the Chicagoland construction industry. Our team has worked on various projects throughout the city including Soldier Field, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Navy Pier, Willis Tower, Northwestern Welsh-Ryan Arena, Washington/Wabash CTA Platform, Ravinia Festival, and Lincoln Park Zoo.
Oversee all Waukegan Steel, LLC (WS) project management and support personnel to ensure timely execution of all active structural steel and misc. metals project scopes. Work closely with project managers to engage and communicate effectively with customers throughout all stages of their construction projects. Respond to project challenges, work with WS team to develop solutions to problems, and keep projects on schedule and on budget. Operations Manager/VP Operations position will report to the President.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate project management personnel and maintain a high-performance culture focused on accountability and passion to constantly improve; coach individuals as needed to ensure positive project outcomes in all areas
- Work closely with President to improve overall company performance and strengthen customer relationships; foster repeat business, sales opportunities
- Confirm and ensure established project planning and management processes are followed
- Refine project management manual; develop effective standardized approach to all aspects of how WS manages our projects – planning, sequencing/erector coordination, scheduling, shop drawing/submittal review process, communication with customers, SOV, billings, change management, daily reports, etc.
- Evaluate strengths and weaknesses of each PM; coach individuals as needed to ensure positive project outcomes in all areas
- Consistently demonstrate patience and positive collaboration approach when working to improve WS processes and procedures
- Evaluate and manage financial risk of all project decisions
- Work closely with pre-construction group to ensure strong transition of project bid information to enable timely, proactive, effective project start-up and planning
- Work closely with shop production manager to evaluate current project fabrication priorities, allocate necessary resources, and ensure all deadlines are met.
- Develop and manage project budgets ensuring costs are under control as projects move forward
Ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
- 10+ years experience in a senior project management role looking for next level challenge
- Working knowledge of structural steel and misc. metals fabrication/erection or related industry
- Strong verbal/written communication skills
- Team player, prefers fast paced environment, comfortable multi-tasking, prioritizing, and ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously
- Proficient with architectural/structural blueprint reading and steel shop drawing packages
- Patient; works well with all skill, experience
