Selective Insurance Group, Inc.

is a holding company for ten property and casualty insurance companies rated “A” (Excellent) by A.M.

Best.

We provide customized risk management solutions and value-added products and services that address every customer’s unique needs.

We’re excited to offer a newly created leadership role, reporting directly to our Chief Commercial Lines Underwriting Officer, to drive the continuous development and evolution of our best-in-class product offerings at the enterprise level for all of our standard commercial lines business.

The ideal candidate will have more than technical acumen and leadership capability.

Success requires significant influencing skills, market savvy, and expert knowledge of product design and lifecycle.

In this role, you’ll draw upon a broad and deep underwriting discipline along with competitive intelligence to proactively explore creative and innovative product solutions.

To ensure best-in-class products at the enterprise level, you will partner with Strategic Business Unit (SBU) leaders, Line of Business (LOB) leaders as well as the Regions, Corporate Claims, Marketing, Actuarial, Legal, State Filings, the Business Services Unit (BSU), Investments and Investor Relations.

You will be responsible to ensure that our products are positioned for profitable growth, analyzing product performance and proactively identifying opportunities at state, line of business and agency level, while also identifying adverse impacts, trends and solutions.

You will lead our team of product development specialists, ensuring the team has the necessary technical acumen for all commercial lines of business (major and mini-lines).

To heighten Selective’s focus on product development, you will design and implement a process for regular reviews and updates of each product line and product offering to drive profitable growth in order to have a regular cadence for updates scheduled.

You will oversee and continuously improve an efficient and effective project management process to manage our rate, rule and form filings as well as necessary regulatory changes on a state by state basis including minor and major product enhancement ideas.

You will lead market research into competitor’s filings, emerging markets and coverages, underserved classes of business in opportunity classes growing economically as well as challenging our historic underwriting appetite decisions to identify classes for future profitable growth.

You’ll engage with agencies as well as Investor Relations for additional competitor insights and will collaborate with the Investments team to seek information on economic changes segment by segment.

Utilize this research to make a business case for product line expansion.

You will utilize market research to partner with the SBUs and LOBs to review and update appetite selections as well as underwriting guideline development.

You will engage the SBUs, LOBs, Safety Management and Marketing to deliver effective marketing materials to regional personnel, agents and customers to assist them in understanding the breadth of our offerings.

Along with the SBU and LOB Leaders, you’ll manage our CLAS (Commercial Lines Automated Systems) enhancement and maintenance schedules.

You will identify value-add opportunities to support our traditional coverage form product offerings and partner with the InsurTech and Innovation team to deliver value-add offerings.

You will find opportunities to engage with agencies, customers, business associations and affinity groups in order to gain insight into their business needs in order to identify opportunities where our current or future product offerings can help to solve their problems.
