We are looking for a highly driven individual that will supervise, train, motivate and mentor Valmont employees and manage the production process of Valmont products.A Brief Summary of This Position:Under the direction of the site Operations Manager, this position is accountable for supervising the processing of custom and company products at the Coatings site to meet schedule, quality, quantity, and cost requirements. Coatings services provided may include, but not necessarily be limited to the following: Galvanizing, Metalizing and Corrocote. The incumbent in this position must ensure a safe work environment for everyone in the plant (employees, customers, vendors, etc.), plan appropriate staffing levels, train employees in proper work technique, handle all employee relations issues including preparing performance reviews, providing regular feedback to employees which will enhance development opportunities and handling employee discipline and corrective action, as needed. This is a working supervisory position that will fill in as needed on crane, forklifts and desk.Essential Functions:Implements work schedule to maximize utilization of manpower, machines, and materials. Assigns work to hourly employees and follows up continuously to ensure appropriate and timely processing.Oversees the receiving, movement of product, loading and shipping processes to meet production schedule and to ensure customer satisfaction. Advises Operations Manager of issues in receiving, and difficulties in meeting shipping schedules, quality or delivery requirements.Defines results and standards of performance expected of assigned personnel. Monitors performance, provides recognition for work well done and takes corrective action as necessary.Continuously observes proper operation of assigned equipment. Regularly checks for and identifies maintenance required and initiates corrective action. Recommends new or improved processes, tools and perhaps even equipment, as required.Ensures product quality meets specified standards coming in and going out. Ensures assigned personnel make inspections or checks as required by standard work procedures. Takes initiative to correct discrepancies as necessary. Advises Plant Manager of conditions outside of the incumbent’s control.Ensures operation is in compliance with all safety requirements following process and procedures correctly and assuring required PPE is worn correctly and at all times.Ensures accurate and timely reporting of assigned personnel’s time and production through various production/shipping reports. Data entry is required including knowledge of Microsoft word, excel, powerpoint, outlookMonitors move tags for completeness and accuracy.Promotes a continuous improvement climate that encourages assigned employees to submit suggestions for improved operations. Implements worthwhile ideas and keeps employees informed of status. Keeps Operations Manager, and Human Resources as appropriate, advised of employee requests, complaints, and suggestions, and provides prompt feedback to employees.Administers company policies in a firm, fair, and consistent manner. Works closely with Human Resources to administer personnel policy and procedures.Maintains good housekeeping and safe working conditions in assigned area. Reports and investigates all incidents in a timely manner.Trains new employees into department/company activities and safety procedures. Prior to the end of probationary period, recommends approval, rejection, or probationary period extension.Supervises truck drivers, company trucks and assures all DOT regulations and trucks are maintained properly.Must be knowledgeable in basic quality standards including venting. Must also be knowledgeable in correct and safe loading methods for customer products.Serves as a leader of the lean manufacturing process to promote continuous improvement. Provides constructive direction and motivation to optimize time and resources.Demonstrates a commitment to the Valmont Safety Mission and corporate safety’s Critical Success Factors processWorks with HR to screen, interview and hire staff as necessary. May also work closely with staffing agencies to cover spikes in production where extra resources are needed.Other Important Details about the Role:Key Competencies:· Leadership· Patience· Communication· Attention to Detail· Flexibility· Working Well under Pressure· Organization· Teamwork· IntegrityRequired Qualifications:This position requires the incumbent to have a high school diploma/GED, two to five years manufacturing experience and a minimum of two years in a leadership, supervisory or management position.This position requires the ability to recognize hazardous substances and to know basic employee responsibilities for chemical safety and emergency response as listed in Material Safety Data Sheets and the site Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures Plan.The incumbent must have knowledge of Lean Manufacturing practices and regularly use Lean tools in day-to-day business activities in an effort to ensure continuous improvement. This includes the ability to document Standard Work and hold employees accountable.The incumbent must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; and the ability to write routine reports and correspondence. The incumbent must have the ability to speak effectively before groups of employees and customers.The incumbent must have the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as pay changes for employees, proportions and percentages, area, circumference, and volume for product. The incumbent must also have the ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.The incumbent must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form; and the ability to dealwith problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.The incumbent must have proven supervisory skills and must be a strong leader and fully capable of supporting Company business objectives. The incumbent must have excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. The incumbent also must have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Outlook.Highly qualified candidates will also possess:A two year or four year degree and two or more years of supervisory/management experience preferably in a manufacturing environment.Working Environment and Physical Efforts:The primary work environment for this position is an indoor/outdoor shop environment which includes dirt, grease, fumes, extreme temperatures, noise, dust, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and smoke. The incumbent occasionally will be working near moving mechanical parts or in high precarious places. The incumbent may be required to work outside inspecting product and directing incoming material flow where s/he may be exposed to mild to extremely warm/cold weather, humidity, rain or intense sun exposure. The secondary work environment for this position is an indoor office where a desk, table and personal computer are available for administrative tasks.The incumbent will be required to wear safety glasses, hard hat, ear plugs, reflective vest, long sleeves, blue jeans or work pants and steel-toed boots with a built in met guard while on the production floor. The incumbent must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, stand, walk, climb, sit, bend, squat, stoop, push, pull, reach, grasp, hold and carry for various periods of time. The incumbent may be assigned to work additional hours as needed. At this time, this position is dedicated day shift hours, but the incumbent must recognize and be prepared to work at all other times as needed.
