Department Summary The Division of Undergraduate Education and Student Success (UESS) promotes academic excellence, universal access, engagement and achievement for the student scholar.

UESS programs focus on the educational trajectory of the student by providing opportunities and services essential for progress toward scholastic objectives and intellectual development.

UESS departments and programs serve the entire population of UO undergraduate students and partner closely with other campus units to support student success and engagement.

UESS departments and programs include the Accessible Education Center (AEC); Center for Undergraduate Research and Engagement (CURE), Office of Distinguished Scholarships (ODS), and McNair Scholars Program; Academic Residential Communities (ARCs), First-Year Interest Groups (FIGs) and Summer Academy to Inspire Learning (SAIL); Office of Academic Advising (OAA) including the Health Professions Program, PathwayOregon and Student Support Services; Tykeson Hall Academic and Career Advising; Tutoring and Academic Engagement Center; and UESS Administration.

The UESS Administration office provides strategic direction and leadership to the division to effectively promote and administer campus-wide student success and engagement efforts.

The UESS Admin team provides centralized business and program support to each of its departments and programs.

Position Summary The Director of Business Operations and Analysis is responsible for building, managing, and implementing UESS’s budgeting and analytical reporting systems.

In this role, the Director will deal with confidential information and will make recommendations regarding a variety of high-level financial and operational initiatives that may include budget reductions, chart of accounts, position transfers and/or eliminations, resource realignments, and policy interpretation.

The Director reports to the Assistant Vice Provost for Strategic Initiatives and Administration, and works directly with senior leadership, unit directors, and managers to help them understand and manage their budgetary expenditures.

The Director may periodically lead or direct the work of the UESS/Central Shared Services accountants as needed.

Examples include transactional execution, expenditure policy interpretation, documentation requests, and reporting.

The Director is responsible for designing and managing workflows for business processes within UESS, establishing and maintaining proper internal controls for UESS business operations, and approving invoices for UESS.

This position serves as the budget authority designee for procurement card statement reconciliation.

The Director also serves as the lead technical staff member with respect to financial and operational systems.

In that capacity, this position is required to maintain expert-level familiarity with all UO financial systems, including but not limited to Banner, IDR, and Data Warehouse.

The Director builds and maintains budget collection tools and budget reports for the division.

Minimum Requirements A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or Accounting and four years of experience related to accounting, budget development, analysis, auditing, financial reporting, and financial operations (such as analyzing financial information, forecasting program needs, monitoring expenditures, adjusting allotments) OR A combination of education and experience (as described above) totaling eight years Professional Competencies Advanced software and database expertise in Microsoft Office (e.G., Excel) and financial and data systems Strong organizational, project management, and oral and written communication skills Demonstrated ability and/or commitment to working with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds in an inclusive, welcoming environment; ability to effectively work and communicate with individuals from varied cultural backgrounds Must be a strategic thinker, team player, and a strong communicator Must be detail-oriented, have excellent customer service, and ability to work on multiple projects Preferred Qualifications Experience in higher education CPA, CMA, PA, or equivalent certificate Experience with Banner, Cognos and/or other similar software Experience directing the work of other financial professionals FLSA Exempt: Yes All offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of a background inquiry.
