Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships The Director of Major Gifts must have an ongoing relationship with virtually all departments within the hospital. This position interacts extensively with the public, community and the hospitals# governing board and Foundation Board of Directors. The Director of Major Gifts reports to the Executive Director of the University Medical Center Foundation. Physical Capabilities He/She must have the ability to read, write, hear, and verbally communicate in English to the degree required to perform the job. He/She must be able to freely ambulate and lift and carry objects in connection with Development Department special event activities. The Director of Major Gifts position hours will vary according to the needs of the department, and evening and weekend assignments are routine. Skills and Abilities The Director of Major Gifts should possess a variety of skills, which would include a highly professional demeanor and ethical image, excellent communication skills in a group setting and one-on-one encounters, good financial and business acumen skills, and an aptitude for interacting in a positive way with various publics that interface with the Development Office. It is highly important for the Director of Major gifts to be highly motivated to expand the contributor base for Development. A mature individual with contacts in business, industry and professional circles is a necessary trait. The Director of Major Gifts should be knowledgeable about the local community, philanthropic programs, finance investment, public relations and advertising. Job Description The Director of Major Gifts coordinates programs in the areas of major gifts and capital/endowment giving for University Medical Center. This position is responsible for the cultivation and solicitation of all major gifts for the Foundation. Much of the activity is in the areas of cancer and children. This position will provide leadership for capital campaign efforts and interfaces with the Capital Campaign Council. This position has extensive interaction with the Foundation Board members and other volunteers and community groups. The position will provide support for the CMN Broadcast and will serve as the staff liaison for the physicians. This position works with the Physician Leadership Council.
