SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of the Operations Manager, the Shift Supervisor is responsible for maximizing station production in a safe and environmentally responsible manner while seeking continuous improvement.  The position directs completion of numerous tasks carried out by a team of skilled hourly workers during a specific shift while coordinating communications to a variety of interests.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for assuring that all safety rules and regulations are followed including the coordination and supervision of equipment isolation and LOTO Procedures.
  • Responsible for assuring that the station is operating within established guidelines for company, state and federal environmental regulatory compliance.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with Conduct of Operations Manual.
  • Responsible for all personnel on the station property, station activities, proper operation of station equipment, the continuity of operations from shift to shift, including the concept of the Energy Service Technician (EST) Agreement.
  • Responsible for the proper start-up and shutdown of generating units, including the coordination of switching with Load Dispatchers.
  • Responsible for courteously accepting public comments and coordinating an action plan to promote positive public image.
  • Responsible for ensuring competence levels of all direct reports on shift team and developing training plan with operation manager to correct deficiencies.
  • Responsible for daily coordination of weekly and outage maintenance scheduling and establishing maintenance priorities.
  • Responsible for general housekeeping and cleanliness of assigned equipment and overall plant.
  • Responsible for communicating and leading in accordance with company vision and core values

 EDUCATION:

  • Associate’s degree in a related field or relevant military training is preferred.  Demonstrated experience in power plant operations may be considered in lieu of educational preference. 

EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of five (5) years experience in engineering, operations, or maintenance in a heavy industrial environment is required.  Eight (8) years experience and power plant operations are preferred.
  • An excellent working knowledge of plant steam, mechanical, electrical, and chemical systems and their appropriate integration for efficient and effective production.
  • Experience in a Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) Plant is a significant plus.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Excellent communications skills including written, verbal, and motivational.
  • Ability and willingness to lead and train subordinates to fully realize maximum team potential in accordance with bargaining unit agreement.
  • Ability to coordinate numerous activities under stress, with poise and safety.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, remaining focused and calm in the face of distractions.
  • Knowledge or ability to learn SAP workflow computer application within four months.
  • Working knowledge of MS office suite applications.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • 24-hour, 7 days a week power plant environment.
  • Work environment includes working out of doors, working at heights, high/low ambient temperatures and high humidity/high heat areas at generating unit work location.
  • Requires standing, lifting, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders.
  • Requires wearing personal protective safety equipment.
  • Overtime and non-standard work hours as required.
