Help us keep the world cool!n n Job Summaryn n This position’s primary purpose is to research, design, develop, and evaluate electrical and control equipment and processes used in heat exchange products.
This role is responsible for developing processes, policies, and procedures, and ensuring all engineering projects align with the organization’s objectives.
This position also collaborates with other engineering disciplines, management, sales and marketing, and related departments as necessary to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and demand for engineering products and services, in addition to managing engineering verification activities to ensure product or service projects are met on-time and conform to organizational and/or client specifications.
This role advises leadership and other impacted departments on product or design changes which may affect profit, schedule, cost, or client relationships.
Success in this role requires extensive technical knowledge of assigned product lines, as well as a comprehensive understanding of market conditions and customer needs.n n Responsibilitiesn Participate in overall global product strategy and product development initiatives for Controls Research HVAC industry controls offerings and develop product roadmap to position SPX as recognized leader for controls Interface with end users and electrical contractors to obtain voice of customer product needs and control system integration Design and implement new control panel designs for open and closed circuit cooling towers, evaporators and condensers used in the HVAC and refrigeration industry Ability to design control systems incorporating Variable Frequency Drives (VFD), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Human Machine Interfaces (HMI), and Building Management Systems (BMS) Develop project plans and business case for proposed projects Influence and collaborate with sales, engineering, marketing, manufacturing, and operations to develop product definitions responsive to customer needs and marketing opportunities Define and document customer requirements for new products, as well as desired changes/enhancements for existing products Continually review current product portfolio’s ability to meet customer needs Develop competitive analysis materials to compare product segment with key competitors Lead and develop best practices, processes and documentation Disseminate information on products and product strategies to all functional areas of the business unit, providing technical product training as needed n n Education/Experiencen Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Industrial Automation Five plus years of relevant experience Knowledge of Electrical Codes Broad electrical systems and controls product and market knowledge Technical aptitude and strong technical knowledge of electrical systems and controls Technical aptitude and strong technical knowledge of HVAC products Strategic decision making skills Strong presentation skills Formal exposure to process improvement methodology Strong knowledge of functions relevant to product engineering including purchasing, product engineering, production, cost analysis, quality, continuous improvement, and customer service Strong skills in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint Willingness to travel domestically and internationally about 15 percent of the time n Physical Demandsn n The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
