Role

This position is accountable for monitoring and coordination of the Project Safety Plan (PSP).

This position requires an effective team leader who can assist the project team members and foster a working environment where project staff can work together to deliver the project safely.

The Safety Manager will assist in the planning, development, and control of major safety aspects of the project and provide oversight over the design-builders safety program.

The position is responsible for supporting the clients safety office in the development of project related safety concepts and recommending hazard mitigations to the project teams, investigation of incidents, reviewing hazard analyses by staff, reviewing project safety plans, completion of project safety reports, and other tasks as assigned.

The position requires working a standard 40-hour week including but not limited to nights, weekends, and holidays with extended hours at the clients discretion.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Review and monitor the design-builders Project Safety Plan (PSP);

• Become familiar with the construction safety requirements of the program;

• Coordinate with the clients Safety Manager as necessary and provide reports as needed;

• Perform site safety reviews, including but not limited to construction equipment, personnel, work procedures, traffic control, etc.;

• Work constructively with members of the project team to resolve project safety related issues.

Provide safety recommendations to key staff members;

• Provide counseling and intervention to correct observed hazardous, at risk, or non-complaint work activities;

• Review identified uncontrolled hazards or security vulnerabilities with design-builder supervision, and establish an agreement regarding future compliant controls for identified hazards;

• Attend or conduct project safety meetings with each discipline involved as needed to ensure effective project control;

• Report construction incidents to the clients Safety Manager immediately upon notification;

• Respond to construction incident scene(s), and assist the clients construction safety personnel with major incident investigations; and

• Complete a weekly safety report, summarizing key safety performance indices, safety and reviews, project safety issues, safety meetings, incidents, investigations, and observed hazardous, at-risk, or non-compliant work activities

Background and experience required

• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Sciences, or related field and/or a minimum of 10 years demonstrable experience in construction safety;

• Demonstrated Safety Engineering and/or Safety Assurance experience on rail transit projects, specifically on bridge and tunnel systems;

• Demonstrated experience with the application 29 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 1926;

• OSHA 30 Construction (In-Class) certified;

• Current certification in First Aid, CPR, Bloodborne Pathogens and OSHA Confined Space;

• Board Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation preferred;

• Must be able to work nights and weekends including holidays;

• Must be able to successfully complete RWP certification class;

• Must be able to pass a Government background check;

• Must be able to lift at least 25 lbs.

• Must be able to work in confined spaces.

• Must be able to ascend and descend ladders.
