We provide a platform that delivers seamless mission support and exceptional customer service in a very cost effective and repeatable solution.The primary responsibility of the Safety & Environmental Manager is to ensure compliance with government safety regulations and industry standards as well as to mitigate risk of employee injury and illness. The Safety Manager inspects workplaces to minimize or eliminate hazards from processes, such as incorrect working methods, and materials. The Safety Manager recommends changes to protect and educate employees on compliance through the use of safety training programs. The Safety Manager also investigates accidents to identify their causes and find ways to prevent them in the future. This position works directly with the Company Project Manager(s), the Operations Manager, the Human Resources Manager, as well as the United States Government and military.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:* Review rules, regulations and orders, which have been issued by Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Air Force Occupational Safety and Health Standards (AFOSH), Safety and Health Requirements Manuals, as well as other Federal, State and/or local agencies to formulate uniform interpretation and compliance procedures for all affected locations.* Conduct formal and informal audits and inspections, which are scheduled and unscheduled at project locations to include monitoring all departments, to ensure regulatory compliance and a safe working environment.* Ensure that all employees receive adequate and effective safety and health training relevant to their job assignments, as required by law.* Establish/Maintain a Safety Committee to help management improve safety and health in the workplace, increase safety awareness, review and evaluate incident and accident reports/safety hazard reports and safety inspections to ensure compliance* Ensures departments achieve and maintain environmental compliance, prevent pollution and participates in environmental program.* Oversee Develop/Prepare/Enforce safety and health programs/standards, goals and accident/incident reporting procedures.* Maintain documentation and recordkeeping in compliance with Federal standards for all EMI Services site locations.* Assist each project location with developing and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment that complies with Federal, State and /or local laws, regulations and standards.* File and manage all insurance related losses with the appropriate insurance carrier.* Investigate all major safety and health concerns/issues, which occur at project locations.* Serves as the units/department point of contact for matters involving environmental issues and compliance with Base Order(BO) 5090.9* Develop and maintain environmental SOP in accordance with BO 5090.9 to implement the environmental management program.* Maintain a list of locations of all environmental related sites within the organization.* Conducts weekly and monthly inspections of environmental related sites and records.* Performs and documents follow up actions required to ensure correction of container management deficiencies and timely removal of hazardous material.* Oversees and participates in the implementation of command Hazardous Material (HM) collection, handling, and disposal and ensures all HM operations are carried out in compliance with the requirements of BO 5090.9.* Actively promote the reduction of volume and toxicity of HM produced within the ECO’s organization.* Provide leadership and set a personal example with respect to safety* Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work.Performance Requirements:* Basic understanding and awareness of key multi-state and federal regulations that relate to OSHA.* Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to make presentations before groups in a professional, clear, and concise manner.* Effective technical, interpersonal, organizational and telephone etiquette skills.* Present professional appearance and demeanor.* Operate a personal computer, with emphasis on accuracy, mental alertness, and neatness. Working knowledge of personal computer applications including Microsoft Office and Outlook Express.* Be willing and able to work outside normal business hours when necessary.* Ensure proper housekeeping of work areas, desks, equipment, etc., within area of responsibility.* Understand and adhere to policies and procedures as set by EMI Services.* Detail oriented, thorough, and accurate. Must exhibit initiative and independent thinking.* Enforce personnel policies utilizing established guidelines.* Promote and maintain a positive image of EMI Services to our customer, vendors, employees, and the community.* Maintain confidentiality of information related to EMI Services, our customers, vendors and employees.* Be adaptable and flexible in work situations. Establish priorities to ensure completion of tasks in a timely manner.* Continuously strive to accomplish individual and EMI Services goals.* Polite, professional, and courteous to others. Demonstrate a cooperative and positive attitude.* Inform the Project Manager of all pertinent problems, irregularities, and other important information within area of responsibility.* Adhere to safety policies and procedures to include proper use of personal protective equipment.Qualifications Requirements:* EDUCATION: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent. Completion of Vocational/ Technical or similar program in environmental remediation and spill response is required. Certified in 2DOT 49, CFR 172.700 and EPA certified in all disciplines for asbestos and lead based paint. Incumbent will also be trained in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.120, 40 CFR 264.16, 40 CFR 265.16 and 49 CFR 172.704. Incumbent will be required to have completed the 40-hour HAZWOPER, the 24-hour RCRA, and the 24-hour DOT Awareness training prior to performing duties. Additionally, they will complete 8 hours of annual refresher training for HAZWOPER and RCRA.EXPERIENCE: Minimum of two years’ experience in facility engineering, as an environmental technician. Working knowledge of multi-state Safety rules/laws a plus!* This individual is subject to Government approvalCertificates, Licenses, RegistrationsValid driver’s license is required.OSHA 30 training; 10 hours continuing educationCommunication SkillsAbility to use correct English grammar, spelling, and syntax in written and verbal communications is considered to be an essential qualification. Additional qualifications in this area are: Ability to read and interpret documents such as regulatory instructions, task documentation, and policy and procedure manuals. Ability to write clearly and concisely in developing training aids, updating P&P, and producing routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before employee groups.Mathematical SkillsAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.Reasoning AbilityThe essential qualifications in this area are: the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form, and the ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situationsPhysical DemandsThe essential physical requirements are: Carrying objects/boxes/print-outs short distances.Extensive work with a personal computer.May require lifting and moving as much as 50 pounds with assistance as needed.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, talk, hear, stand, twist, stoop, reach, squat, and walk. Performing duties may require prolonged periods of sitting, bending, squatting, standing, twisting, or stooping.
