Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivated Regional Rail Lead and Senior Project Manager to join the Rail team in our Houston Texas, and Dallas Texas offices.
In this role you will have the opportunity to lead a team of engineers and technicians focused on a variety of exciting Rail and Transit projects in Texas while regularly supporting projects in other states.
Our Rail & Transit Team is engaged in every element of the design of supporting infrastructure working for Transit Agencies as well as Class I, Shortline and Regional Railroads.
While we work for the major owners, we also lead design teams on major Design-Build and PPP projects.
In addition, our Rail team works with Port Clients, Mining companies and other Industrial Clients on projects in North America, Australia, Europe and Africa.
Hatch gets engaged early to assist with concepts and preliminary design, help the client with transportation planning, operational design, simulation of people, product and railcar flows, optimize production of the available footprint, and find ways to save the client money while we deliver beyond their expectations. We act like owners, genuinely offering the best solutions that are safe, innovative and sustainable.

As the successful candidate, you will:
• Lead a Team of Rail & Transit professionals delivering sound engineering on exciting projects.
Your role will encompass developing new business in the region, building and nurturing relationships with existing and potential clients while leading local projects and responding to new requests for services.
You will provide project and technical leadership on a broad spectrum of projects that may include transit and freight rail design, including carrying clear responsibility and accountability for the delivery of project objectives during planning, design, procurement, and construction.
• Provide leadership, direction and technical guidance to team members and consultants to ensure that quality technical services are provided to clients and project requirements are achieved.
• Manage project production, changes, client relations, financial management and reporting, and safety of various projects to ensure quality, client satisfaction, and profitability of projects.
• Act as a trusted advisor to our clients, helping to deliver technically complex and cost-effective design solutions.
• Assist in pursuits, client relationship building efforts, and building technical excellence within the group.

You bring to the role:
• Civil Engineering Degree from an accredited University.
• At least 10 years of relevant experience with freight rail or transit projects with a proven track record in railway engineering and project management.
• Respect in the rail industry, with knowledge of the local market, and respected connections in the Class I and/or Transit Authority markets.
• PE registration, or eligible for registration, in the state of Texas.
• PMP registration an asset.
• Significant North American freight rail experience, working with Class I Railways including a deep working knowledge of North American railway design standards, including relevant Class I Railway main track and industrial design standard, and the AREMA Manual for Railway Engineering.
• Transit design experience is an asset.
• Experience in railway corridor and terminal planning, design and construction including, evaluating vertical and horizontal grade and track alignments, quantity and construction cost estimates, engineering design reports, technical specifications, material and equipment selection, cost estimates, construction contract documentation, compilation of design/construction drawings, construction coordination, and contract administration.
• Broad knowledge and experience with the design of railroad bridges and structures, and with signals & communications is beneficial.
• Experience in rail operations, train planning, rail equipment maintenance facility design and track maintenance will be beneficial.
• Experience managing multi-disciplinary teams in a rail or transit project environment.
• Commercially astute (financial, legal, risk management).
