EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The following duties are illustrative for this position. Keeps the mission, vision and values of the City of Port St. Lucie at the forefront of decision making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives, maintains high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations.Plans, directs, and implements varied programs of recreation activities and services for the citizens of the community in accordance with their varied interests.Responsible for supporting and monitoring evaluation processes, including planning, training, evaluation, and analysis, for programs and events.Recruits, trains, and focuses on retention of (volunteer) coaches, and referees (employees). Provides required/supplemental training for new and current volunteers and employees.Assists in resolving concerns and complaints from coaches, participants, organizations and/or the public.Conduct and/or supervise programs at various recreational center locations. Ability to supervise large groups, including children, both visually and audibly to ensure health/safety standards and the orderly integration of all programs.Assembles and maintains pertinent records and other information.Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits a variety of documents such as memos, schedules, communication requests forms, and other correspondence, etc., for approval by Recreation Manager.Recommends a program or plan of action commensurate with the budget regarding recreation services.Assists in overseeing Minsky Gym operations and management.Assists in planning, budgeting, scheduling, set-up and break-down, and all other aspects of special events, programs, leagues and other city department events.On occasion, is asked to maintain equipment and the facility by performing manual labor such as painting, semi-skilled work, litter control of facility, pressure cleaning, general housekeeping, and other manual labor tasks like setting up meeting rooms with chairs and tables and clears area after meetings.Supervises and directs nighttime staff in the daily operation functions at Minsky Gym.Assists Manager with directing assigned duties and scheduling requirements for the day and evening shiftsOther duties may be assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Bachelor’s (B.A. or B.S.) degree in Recreation or a related field from an accredited four-year college or university preferred. Two (2) years of successful experience in professional recreation work, one (1) of which was in a supervisory capacity. Certified Parks & Recreation Professional preferred. CPR/AED certification required 270 days from hire. Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License and maintenance of a clean driving history. A comparable amount of training, education or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
