Plan, control, and execute all matters relating to the production of finished goods for Dairy Farmers of America in a manner that meets or exceeds expectations. Hire, train, and communicate the expectations of Dairy Farmers of America in all areas of safety, quality, productivity, and profitability to the employees performing the duties in which the Production Supervisor is responsible.Understand and support safety as the first priorityEnsure compliance with all company policies, local, state, and federal regulationsHelp ensure all policies and procedures for the PMO (Pasteurized Milk Ordinance), Safe Quality Food (SQF), American Institute of Baking (AIB) and Quality Assurance International (QAI — organic) are followedEnsure staff complies with all safety regulations, policies, and proceduresCoordinate and communicate the hiring of production personnel and lead people for the completion of proposed production scheduleCoordinate and communicate all information necessary relating to the usage of material and/or bulk product in the production of finished productUnderstand each step of product flow through the entire facility and teach itProvide leadership in development and maintenance of team effort. Determine work quality performed and correct performance immediately through re-training and/or counselingProvide instructions to assigned staff in all departments throughout shift to assure conformance to quality standards. Maintain position of authority and accountability by communicating work and company information to employees on a regular basis. May seek input and opinions from employeesFollow weekly schedule required to meet production requirements. Direct standardizing, product transferring, and tank-changing activities. Maintain accurate shift records of receivables and other production activities as requiredStaff the production department with trained employees and communicate the sense of urgency with all employees that is needed in a manufacturing environment while maintaining costs relationships to a budgetMonitor the usage and waste of DFA’s purchased itemsComplete all reports for company management, vendors, and customers as required in a timely mannerPerform employee evaluations in a timely manner consistent with DFA policyDevelop performance improvement plans for employees as neededMonitor and document progressive discipline proceduresCommunicate and be aggressive in regards to cost reduction in all areas relating to the Production department (e.g., supplies, line efficiency, labor, services purchased, etc.)Chair weekly shift meetings covering pressing issues, plant performance, and trainingMaintain a safe, clean, organized work area throughout the facility and office areaEnsure all annual training is completed in a timely mannerTake an active role in and support plant committeesMonitor all equipment performance to ensure normal conditions and standards of cleanliness are met. Develop resolutions to production problems and seek appropriate help when neededCoordinate product movement to ensure adequate bag and product supplies are available for packaging and bulk truck loading activities. Observe quality of packaged product and appropriate stackingMaintain accurate records of inventory, rework, and other product categories. Oversee product transfer and receipt while ensuring compliance to handling standards and product contamination prevention. Coordinate efforts for packaging and warehousing activitiesMaintain inventory control through monitoring and accurate recordkeeping. Advise leadership of required inventory items and other requirements as well as deviations from established proceduresProvide assistance to accounting functions through accurate recordkeeping, inventory confirmations, and modification notificationsRecord and report any actions which violate safety, dress code, and work standards. Ensure safety program compliance as requiredReview and approve employee hours and related information. Advise employees of correct procedures for requesting time off. Monitor unauthorized employee time away from work stationMaintain thorough knowledge of all plant systems and equipmentProvide training to employees in various required OSHA programs. Conduct Safety Tool Box Talks and Safety Observations. Assist in orientation and training of new employeesDevelop staffing schedules to ensure necessary work coverageDemonstrate good judgment in safeguarding customer, company, vendor and employee informationMaintain a cooperative working relationship with customers, vendors, employees, and peersMaintain a well-groomed, professional appearance for the position and the situationDedicate effort to safety as we expect every employee to leave work in the same condition as they arriveFollow and enforce all DFA good manufacturing practices (GMP) and work in consistent manner with all corporate, regulatory, food safety, quality, and sanitation requirementsExhibit the values and ethics of Dairy Farmers of America through honesty, discretion, and sound judgmentAdhere to all DFA Quality, Safety and GMP policies and procedures and report any nonconformityAttend required training, including but not limited to Safety, GMP, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP), and Safe Quality Foods (SQF)Ensure availability to respond to emergencies or other unexpected operational requirements (i.e., nights, weekends, or holidays).
