Title: Portfolio Management Consultant Term: 10 Months Location: San Antonio, TX 78220 Job Description: The project portfolio manager will assume the overarching responsibility for supporting organizational and IT leadership in their efforts at overseeing, managing and leveraging the entire life cycle of IT and Non-IT investments and initiatives to optimally achieve enterprise goals and objectives.
The role aim is to help focus leadership efforts and provide/escalate data around the organizational aim of achieving an optimized mix amount IT and Non-IT investments, making the best possible use of all resources and delivering the maximum value and benefits from projects and programs within the portfolio.
The position includes some aspects and ownership for identifying, prioritizing, and coordinating projects and program resources and delivering the maximum value and benefits from projects and programs portfolio.
The portfolio manager is a primary source and resource to the investment board, steering committee, and senior executive engagement for communications and reporting the state and performance to expectations for the initiatives within the project portfolio.
Primary Responsibilities and Activities Develop strong communication protocols enabling executives to link projects to create value for the overall organization, furthering strategic goals and building performance-sustaining capabilities that empower the organization.
Develop portfolio-level data and information essential for allocating resources to the most strategic projects and determining when to deprioritize or stop other projects.
Develop clear process guidelines, training for project participants to follow for the collection and reporting of data, as well as a solid governance structure for decision making.
Engaging executives, project managers, resource managers, and project participants in the adoption of the portfolio management.
Develop a formal and disciplined portfolio management structure-one that aligns projects and programs to an organization’s strategic roadmap.
Cultivate competencies around specific portfolio management governance, practices and portfolio decision-making capabilities in their journey to greater maturity.
Prioritize portfolio management competencies and position it as a value-add and educate leaders and peers on the practice.
Develop & execute communication & change management plans to support enterprise in effectively delivering value & maturing capabilities.
Ensure adherence to the appropriate governance functions relating to the portfolio and in accordance with the enterprise guidelines, policies, and practices Facilitate and coordinate efforts of the senior leadership toward the establishment of the project portfolio definition, its structure and process, from demand management and strategic alignment of projects and programs; to portfolio categories and criteria; through evaluation, selection and prioritization; to execution, tracking and measuring the achieved results.
Engage with and conduct reviews with senior executives, stakeholders, and steering committees and other relevant bodies to validate and assess the project portfolio, execute change, and reprioritize to meet business needs as required.
Conduct regular meetings with the senior leadership to inform and alert then of any issues arising from the performance of the individual projects within the portfolio to assure the on-plan usage and consumption of resources and funding, and to highlight any variances.
Lead reviews of significant initiatives, projects or programs that are challenged and provided recommendations as to whether it should continue, be significantly changed, placed on hold or discontinued.
Collaborate with senior leadership, business areas, and IT to identify opportunities for applying technology development to the challenges from growing digitalization.
Ensure the oversight and coordination of dependencies across the projects and programs in the portfolio and resolve or escalate conflicts.
As mandated and resourced by leadership, ensure and balance the availability of the required skills and competencies across projects and programs teams within the project portfolio.
Direct the development and maintenance of communications and reporting around the project portfolios, their contents and the individual performance of initiatives to stakeholder and governance boards and senior leadership Direct the creation and maintenance of the required project portfolio documentation and artifacts Support and advise executives on actions required to balance the portfolio of existing assets and services Job Requirements Education Bachelor’s or Master preferred in information systems, Business Administration, or related field or equivalent work experience PMP Certification
– Required Experience 10 or more years of experience in business /industry 7 to 10 years of diverse roles and increasing leadership responsibilities across major projects or programs Demonstrated experience in managing “upward” among senior leadership Demonstrated experience in leading diverse teams Substantial consultant leadership experience a plus
