People Operations Manager

VetnCare is seeking a People Operations Manager to join our growing leadership team. Reporting to the Senior People Operations Manager, this position also works closely with our Field Operations Leaders and our site-based Hospital managers. The People Operations Manager is a critical role in ensuring each and every VetnCare employee has an extraordinary employee experience. This role will be a combination of remote, site visits, and in the office in Napa 1-2 days per week.
VetnCare is a start-up based in the Bay Area that acquires veterinary hospitals and own/operate new hospitals within Petco retail stores with plans to expand further into the north-west market. VetnCare provides the business foundation, maintenance, and strategy to support each hospital’s growth within the organization. This structure enables our clinical partners to focus on medicine and deliver the highest quality medical care for our patients.

What you’ll do:

    • Acts as a resource to managers, supervisors, and employees to interpret policies and procedures.
    • Handles all facets of employee relations, including investigations and resolutions to employment disputes. Provides guidance regarding and/or create and maintain accurate documentation of investigations or other employment or labor matters.
    • Develop and maintain policies, procedures and guidelines, and lead projects to completion with the assistance of the Senior People Operations Manager.
    • Design and deliver training for employees, supervisors, managers, and local Human Resource offices pertaining to employee relations, leadership, benefits, workers comp, performance management and related compliance (e.g., training concerning policies, procedures, and/or applicable state and federal legal requirements).
    • Continuously identify and implement ways to improve the employee experience by engaging with employees and leaders.
    • Manage employee data and serve as subject matter expert on all people systems, ensuring they remain up-to-date and confidential.
    • Develop and implement HR reporting, building on the existing dashboard.
    • Coordinate the open enrollment process at site level and act as a resource for employees for benefits, leave, onboarding and offboarding, and employee relations
    • Oversee leaves of absence and provide counsel to employees throughout theprocess
    • Manage our annual compensation and quarterly performance review process at the site level.
    • Coordinate onboarding and off-boarding experience for new hires and exits.

Experience/qualifications:

    • 5 or more years of people operations experience in a fast-paced, dynamic start-up environment
    • A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management or related field
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to collaborate and influence at all levels
    • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Strong time management and ability to effectively multi-task
    • Creative problem-solving skills
    • Recruitment experience, including for hard-to-fill roles
    • Strong background in employee relations policies, processes, programs, and consultation.
    • The ability to work well independently as well as part of a team
    • Discretion, tact and diplomacy
    • Experience using an HRIS and applicant tracking system (ADP, BambooHR and Lever preferred)
