Position is responsible as a single point of contact for caregivers, physicians, and others for patient transfer or placement. Position promotes patient satisfaction as a leader by demonstration of extraordinary service to ensure that quality patient care is delivered in accordance with Providence Health & Services’ mission, vision and values. Position has authority to make leadership decisions, provide direction and oversight with operational issues for all hospital departments on behalf of Administration during assigned shift. Works in collaboration with Administrator on Call for after-hours issuesIn this position, you will have the following responsibilities:Directs Patient/Resident Care Services:Monitor care provided on the nursing units and addresses concerns with the caregivers, charge nurses, and other unit/department management teamsStrive to assure that staffing is adequate for patient/resident needs.Facilitate and coordinates Inpatient/Swing bed/Observation/Long Term Care bed management for hospital utilization.Facilitate timely throughput of patients from point of entry to appropriate patient/resident room .Patient CareStep in as necessary to help with clinical and bedside needsWhen needed performs clinical duties to fulfill the responsibilities of the bedside RNFunction as a staff nurse according to department staffing planClinical coaching on the unit and at the bedside with all staffCollaborate with Medical Staff and ProfessionalsProvide consultation and direction for efficient operation and quality customer serviceWork to intervene as needed if there are issues or concerns regarding patient care or administrative function.Oversee, enhance and facilitate caregiver and provider interactions, working to promote a collaborative environmentAct as an administrative representative in the absence of AdministratorsProvides resources after hours when services are needed for continuity of patient careInvestigate Concerns and Issues:Work collaboratively with caregivers and others to determine issues and corrective actions related to patient, family, provider or caregiver concernsFollow up promptly with appropriate persons and documents as needed.Consult with nursing leadership regarding patient care issues for appropriate follow through.Promote problem identification, investigates hospital incidents, facilitates resolution and follow-up communication as necessary and assists in documentation of incidentsEnsure compliance with regulatory agencies such as CMS, Department of Health, etc. Develops and maintains procedures necessary to meet regulatory requirementsOversee Nurse Staffing:Direct and collaborate with department/unit management team and nurses to help assure appropriate staffing and efficient use of resources.Monitor and control available resources, human and material, to support the safe delivery of care.Wise steward of resources. Step in as necessary to help with clinical or bedside needs for short term surge of activity.Be the extra safety peer check in units that are staffed with one RN.Be able to fulfil the responsibilities of a bedside Registered Nurse on their regular shifts.Emergency ResponseRespond to codes and emergency situations, providing leadership and assistance as necessaryPerform lead role including Incident Commander in disaster situations or other crisis situations until additional leadership personnel arriveFacilitate Referral Process for Organ Donation and Manages Post-mortem Process:Facilitates communication with patient care units, mortuaries, Medical Examiner, Organ Donation Program, next-of-kin, morgue/security and spiritual care regarding in-house deathsMaintain accurate documentationfor facilitation of death processProvide Leadership and Guidance to the Hospital Staff:Directly supervises staff membersWork closely with general staff to problem solve and assure that patient care needs are met.Interpret organizational policies and procedures of the hospital and patient care units/ departments as necessary.Perform assessment rounds of patient care areas.Act as a resource for nursing caregivers in clinical practice.Maintain confidentiality of records or medical center information at all times:Maintain full knowledge of HIPAA regulationsCoordinate with Administration and/or Managers re sharing of any patient information in the event of a death, or in unusual ocurrences with disasters.Qualifications:Required qualifications for this position include:Graduate from an accredited/approved school of nursing.Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, to be obtained in 3 years of hireTwo (2) years recent Acute care hospital experience as a staff nurse.Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of AlaskaCurrent Basic Life Support (BLS) card must be from American Heart Association (AHA) upon hire.Able to be certified in ACLS, ENPC/PALs, NRP, TNCC within a year of hire.Preferred qualifications for this position include:Two (2) years nursing supervisory/charge nurse experienceAbout the Providence Valdez Medical CenterProvidence Valdez Medical Center is a 21 bed Critical Access Hospital and we employ about 100 people (87 FTE’s). Of those 21 beds, 10 are licensed Long Term Care beds and 11 are Acute/Swing Beds. We have four physicians on our active medical staff who practice out of the Valdez Medical Clinic. Our average daily census is three-four inpatients and 20-30 outpatients. Our facility contains an emergency room, labor room, post-partum, nursery, cardiac room, orthopedic, and med/surg rooms. We also have an operating room for emergency surgeries and elective procedures, C-sections, hernias and appendectomies.
