KFSM, the TEGNA-owned CBS affiliate in Fayetteville, AR is looking for a creative, innovative, and experienced News Director to lead day-to-day editorial coverage while overseeing content creation and distribution across multiple platforms.
Our ideal candidate can identify engaging content, teach others how to do so, and develop a road map to meet the goals of growing our station through the “News Where You Live” brand.
We are looking for an editorial leader with strong news judgment, a deep understanding of television and digital storytelling with a passion for innovation.

Job Responsibilities
Strategically lead, inspire and manage News Department with a competitive and innovative spirit Lead the newsroom in fulfillment and execution of the station’s “News Where You Live” brand Lead a newsroom culture dedicated to owning enterprise reporting and breaking news across all content platforms Inspire and coach superior, unique and engaging storytelling Oversee and collaborate with Digital Content Director on editorial strategy for daily content creation and distribution across all platforms Work closely with the news team to produce high-quality, relevant, local content that sets the station apart from competitors Recruit and hire top notch journalists for all platforms Foster, encourage and reward taking risk with out-of-the-box thinking that leads to differentiation and success Use creative production techniques such as graphics and new forms of media (viewer pictures, webcam interviews, etc.) to enhance stories Work closely with other Department Heads on ideating and executing strategic initiatives.
Collaborate with content leaders across TEGNA to maximize the sharing of our content and to leverage innovation and best practices among stations Teach, coach, and mentor the entire newsroom in best practices for writing and producing content Perform other duties, as assigned, to drive and fulfill the mission while abiding by the values of this organization
#LI-VT1 Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree and news leadership experience preferred 5-7 years of content experience, including generation of original content, and 2-3 years managing other journalists.
Proven track record of holding people accountable Successful innovative leadership and staff and product development skills Exceptional planning and execution skills Outstanding communicator Be a proven, courageous innovator in developing shows, content, text and community events Be a proven winner in breaking news and severe weather content on all platforms Have a history of hiring the best and brightest journalists, storytellers and video producers, and setting them on a path for future advancement in the company.
Solid journalistic judgement and a news philosophy that emphasizes accurate, fair and unique local content, along with community engagement.
Experience in photojournalism, editing, and content management systems.
Understanding of the tenets of professional journalism.
Skills in producing engaging, content-driven newscasts and digital content.
Strong social media skills, including an active news hound presence on Twitter and Facebook.
Knowledge of ENPS and Edius a plus.
Organizational skills and the ability to work under time pressure deadlines.
Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and changing events.
