The initial Gilmore Expansion Project is expected to extend mine life to 2030.Job DescriptionTo achieve production and operating cost goals, supervise, and instruct Mine Operations in an efficient manner that is consistent with health, safety, and environmental standards.Job Responsibilities1. Maintain overall control of the mine by coordinating operations, including, but not limited to, activities of both Drill and Blast and the Dewatering program through Mine General Foreman and Senior Mine Supervisors.2. Establish and maintain budgetary goals and compliance.3. Achieve short-range and long-range mine plans with Engineering and Mobile Maintenance support.4. Ensure environmental compliance with permit.5. Establish production level priorities for equipment to achieve company goals.6. Monitor monthly mining costs and compare to budget/forecast spending.7. Through interaction with Senior Mine Supervisors, maintain a successful dispatch program to ensure mine operations achieve goals set by management.8. Perform personnel administrative functions, approve employment of exempt and nonexempt personnel, approve salary actions of exempt and nonexempt personnel, participate in the corrective action process, and skill-set development of subordinates to attain maximum staff flexibility and promotion to management.9. Assist in the formation of company policy, S.O.P., and JHA programs.10. Advise and cooperate with all other departments affected by changes in mine operations and assist in overall mine management through interaction with other departments.11. Evaluate and select equipment and supplies.12. Establish safety and training standards with assistance from Health and Safety. Visit working areas to ascertain that operation policies and directives are put into practice consistent with safe operating procedures.13. Must be production orientated.14. Consistent exercise of discretion and judgment in job performance.15. Punctuality and regular attendance is required.16. Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.17. Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to, safety, confidentiality, and environmental policies.18. Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the state.19. Work safely in all areas and identify potential safety hazards and work with management to correct them.Education and ExperienceEducation:* High school diploma or equivalent required. Employee must have sufficient education to read and write instructions, perform simple mathematical calculations, and keep records.* Bachelor of Science in mine engineering preferred.Experience:* Five plus years’ experience as a general mine foreman and front line supervisor or a chief engineer within the Mine Department preferred.* Must possess knowledge of engineering techniques as they apply to orebody evaluation and mine operations.* Must possess general knowledge of open pit mining and the integration of the mining, milling, and maintenance functions.* Demonstrated skills in management and economics (including personnel relations and budget analysis).* Basic working knowledge and skills with a P.C. utilizing word processing and spreadsheet programs.* Basic working knowledge of a mine dispatch system.* Experience in managing personnel in varying and unrelated fields.* Must have solid verbal and written communication skills.* Must be a self-starter with the ability to work with others in a team environment.* Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.* May work holidays, shift work, and weekends as required.Skills* Strong verbal, written, analytical, and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management* Excellent administrative and organizational skills with the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing* Good working Knowledge of MS OfficeReporting Relationships* Mine ManagerLegislative RequirementsBackground Check requiredLanguage RequirementsEnglishTravel RequirementsTravel not required, only exceptionallyKinross is a Canadian-based gold mining company with mines and projects in Canada, the United States, Brazil, Chile, Russia, Ghana and Mauritania, employing approximately 9,300 people worldwide.
