Manufacturing Engineering and Maintenance staff report to this position. Responsibility for establishing, maintaining and troubleshooting the manufacturing process is key to this position. In additional this position is responsible for all plant mechanical systems, building and grounds, environmental reporting and maintaining compliance to ISO14001. This position plays key role in promoting health and safety initiatives and plant morale.The Manufacturing Engineering Department provides production with the necessary equipment, tooling, processes, etc. This department plans, installs, designs, builds and/or maintains new equipment to enable production to manufacture a quality product at optimum cost. In addition, the department provides process troubleshooting and takes an active role in process improvement.The manufacturing engineering function suggests and/or implements engineering change orders and initiates and coordinates projects. The Manufacturing Engineering Manager selects, procures and installs (or builds, when required) all equipment, machinery and tools for work areas, special jigs, fixtures, material handling devices, etc. In effect, the Manager establishes the method used for producing the entire plant product line. The Manufacturing Engineering Manager prepares reports on plant and departmental efficiency and utilization, maintenance activities and engineering projects. The manager prepares and coordinates all AFEs.The Manager receives technical guidance and assistance from corporate staff in addition to the Plant Manager. The incumbent may provide technical guidance to the quality control and production regarding manufacturing related issues and to personnel with regard to OSHA compliance.The Manager has supervisory responsibility for both salary and hourly employees, including hire, discipline and discharge activities (with concurrence of the Plant Manager and Plant Human Resources Manager) and for performance development and salary planning. Maintaining a non-union status is critical.Internal contacts are required with all staff members, production supervisors, hourly maintenance and tool room staff. Numerous external contacts are required to evaluate equipment, tools, or vendors for major expense projects. Occasional travel is required to vendors or to Racine for quality issues, project review, new technology evaluations or general management meetings.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES* Provide positive support as a change agent and drive continuous improvement in the organization.* Mentor and develop direct reports and others to improve general knowledge, problem solving skills and prepare them for more challenging assignments.* Support the production department by providing necessary equipment, tooling and processes, troubleshoot as needed. Revise tooling and fixtures when required; build new tools, tables, racks and fixtures as needed.* Advise, initiate and/or implement cost savings related to plant layout, new equipment, product design and tooling.* Monitor departmental efficiencies and utilization.* Maintain building and equipment and tooling within safety and environmental standards.* Provide leadership and direction to departmental staff; evaluate staff performance to maximize use of staff talents and abilities to reach plant objectives.* Responsible for plant compliance with OSHA, insurance carriers, and state air and water pollution control boards.* Prepare annual capital expenditures, deferred tool and major expense budgets and coordinate their procurement.* Oversee plant maintenance and tools, and inventory of spare parts, greases, oils, etc.* Develop and maintain a standards program including labor standards and process sheets for tooling, equipment, layouts, capacity studies and plant production methods.Position Qualifications:A Bachelor degree in Engineering or other related technical field, combined with a minimum of seven to ten years engineering-related responsibilities is preferred.Masters in an Engineering Management or MBA Preferred.Experience in MOS, or other Toyota Production System environments, Toyota Kata, Sheet Metal Design and Fabrication, SAP, MP2, Lean Management Principles and RI/Federal Environmental requirements desired.PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTSThe physical job requirements for the position of Manufacturing Engineering Manager include being able to do the following: occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, stand for less than 4 hours per day, sit for more than 4 hours per day, occasionally grasp items with either hand, and walk for less than 4 hours per day.Modine is an Equal Opportunity Employer and Welcomes all Qualified Applicants!EOE/Minorities/Females/Vet/DisabilityModine provides a competitive benefit package, including paid vacation, sick leave, 401(k), health, dental, vision, life insurance, flexible spending benefits, tuition reimbursement, Health Savings Account, and much more.
