Maintenance Manager

Basic Function
Based in Statesville, NC, the basic purpose of this job is to ensure that all manufacturing equipment is properly maintained and that all PM’s and maintenance requests are completed as scheduled.

This position is also responsible for developing, implementing and sustaining continuous improvement projects through lean manufacturing methodologies.
Maintenance Duties
PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :
Plans, oversees and coordinates activities concerned with the maintenance of equipment and machinery.

Oversees capital equipment/building/grounds projects, including researching items, gathering bids, presenting to management & follow through of the project.

Supervises maintenance teams at both company locations to achieve expected results.

Responsible for the development, management & tracking of the preventive maintenance program.

Identify opportunities for upgrading equipment & streamlining maintenance operations.

Consults with engineering and operations relative to modification of machines & equipment in order to improve production and quality of products.

Provides oversight in the scheduling of repairs, maintenance and installation of machines, tools, & equipment to ensure continuous production operations.

Directs maintenance activities on utility systems to provide continuous supply of heat, electric power, gas & air required for operations & the facility.

Directs contractors engaged in buildings & grounds maintenance activities, such as snow & ice removal, disposal of refuse, etc.

Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment by ensuring that all health and safety guidelines are being followed.

Maintains a constant focus on the use of LOTO & Fall Restraint as required per state and federal standards.

Utilizes a database to ensure commonly used spare parts are in stock and organized for quick access at the time of need.

Creates schedules for replacing cutting tools, i.e.

saw blades, mill stacks, fab center tools, punches and dies etc.

Works with other company managers to implement the company’s policies and goals.

Other responsibilities as assigned by the General Manager.

Continuous Improvement Duties
Responsible for documenting and understanding VPI’s production process.

Accurately identifies, prioritizes and documents process improvements using appropriate measurements, analysis and evaluation methods.

Leads Kaizen events/workshops and process improvement teams.

Responsible for the implementation and sustainment of process improvements resulting from Kaizen events and other lean initiatives.

Supports employee training in the proper application of continuous improvement concepts.

Skills
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Must have the ability to troubleshoot, repair, disassemble and reassemble most facility equipment.

Must be fluent in safety procedures to include all things related to maintenance and repair of production machinery and ensure equipment guarding compliance.

Knowledge of OSHA, & other applicable State or Federal program requirements.

Knowledge of continuous process improvement models.

Ability to implement and promote process improvement techniques including: Process Mapping Lead Production System/Lean Tools Kaizen Methodology Must possess a valid Driver’s License and have a good driving record.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Excellent attention to detail & accuracy.

Must be highly motivated and self-directed.

Experience
Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.

An Associate’s Degree is preferred.

Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a maintenance manager or supervisor in a production environment.

Experience with continuous improvement initiatives such as Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, etc.
