JOB DESCRIPTION:

This position contributes to the success of the laboratory by assisting the Lab Management in executing the operations of the laboratory. This job assists and supervises a team of employees that may include phlebotomists, technicians, technologists and tech specialists to create and maintain excellent service for our clients and patients. This position is responsible for leadership and acts in accordance with all UVMHN-Porter Medical Center policies and procedures. Must be able to perform a variety of routine and complex tests in all areas of the laboratory, if needed. Areas included are hematology, immunology, bacteriology, chemistry, serology and microscopy. Responsible for the organization of the workload, delegation of tasks, supervision of staff and scheduling. Acts on behalf of the Director in relaying appropriate interdepartmental communications. Keeps the Director informed of the shift activities as well as consulting with the Director on a routine basis. Reviews and makes decisions about Quality Control.  

EDUCATION:

Baccalaureate degree in Medical Technology or a related science is recommended.

Clinical education in a school of Medical Technology or an affiliated agency.

Certification as an MT or MLT by a recognized Board of Registry.

Must meet CLIA requirements for job position.

EXPERIENCE:

Two years clinical laboratory experience preferred.

Approximately one year is required to learn the job for satisfactory performance.  This will be evaluated by the laboratory director.
