The Labor and Employment Litigation Supervisor will provide support to the UPS Legal Litigation team in all types of non-litigated matters, including from individual charges and demand letters in employment cases, package claims, risk management matters, bankruptcy and collections, class actions and other complex matters, as well as government investigations.
The Supervisor should be familiar with reviewing pleadings, complaints, demand letters and other litigation documents. Matters are located in various international, federal, state, and regulatory jurisdictions. The Supervisor will stay involved in the life cycle of the matter, including:
- Evaluate matter for assignment to outside counsel.
- Assist with matter-specific legal hold process.
- Assist with fact-finding, such as gathering documents or arranging witness interviews.
- Support discovery, including requests for electronic documents and data.
- Process settlement agreements.
- Complete case closure process at matter conclusion.
- Approve invoices.
A significant part of the role is developing and running regular reports to track various litigation elements, including contingencies and accruals. The Supervisor will use data analysis to identify litigation trends an summarize litigation results. Software for reporting includes Passport, SharePoint, Navex, and Tableau.
The Supervisor will need to be adept at working with various individuals, prioritizing work based on importance and deadlines as well as having the ability to communicate with the UPS in-house lawyers about which matter will take priority. In addition to working with in-house and outside counsel, the Supervisor will interact regularly with Human Resources, Operations, and with matter management vendors. This role will manage others.
Responsibilities
Supports UPS Lawyers in Managing litigated matters
- Provides as needed litigation support to UPS in-house counsel and outside counsel.
- Matter intake, including evaluating for assignment to outside counsel.
- Assists with fact-gathering to enable responses to charges, demands, complaints, requests for information, etc…
- Assists in information and documentation collection through Electronically Stored Information (ESI) requests and submitting legal holds.
- Reviews discovery demands to identify information, documents and witnesses to support UPS legal handling of the claim.
- Reviews and approves outside counsel requests for electronic documents needed for discovery.
- Conducts internal analysis of relevant UPS practices to identify information, documents and witnesses to support UPS legal handling of the claim.
- Takes a leading role in litigation trend analysis and summarizing litigation results.
Serves as a Liaison to UPS Departments and Functions
- Serves a legal liaison to other functions to obtain relevant information as described above.
Manages Deadlines, Prioritizes Work, and Communicates Priorities Based on Importance
- As the position will support multiple UPS in-house lawyers, he/she will successfully manage deadlines, priorities and communicate those priorities to various lawyers based on the significance of the matter.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree – Required
- Previous litigation experience – Required
- Microsoft Office proficiency – Required
- Previous law firm experience – Preferred
- Previous in-house experience – Preferred
- Paralegal Certification – Preferred
