Manages the IT department by planning, controlling and coordinating departmental and staff activities in accordance with overall enterprise, hospital, and departmental goals, objectives, policies and procedures.
Maintains management, performance and technical competence levels consistent with enterprise, hospital, and departmental standards in today’s changing healthcare environment for both self and staff.
Promotes effective communication and cooperation with employees, other managers, administration, physicians, and patients.
Develops, executes, and maintains hospital IT strategy in line with the overall Hughston enterprise IT strategy.
Promotes public relations within the hospital and the community.
Position Responsibilities:
- Develops annual budget and monitors monthly adherence.
Can articulate variances factually.
- Plans departmental activities through the development of short and long range goals, objectives and annual budgets, (Capital and Operating).
These goals, objectives, and annual budgets are submitted to the CIO by a pre-set date each year.
- Directs controls and coordinates enterprise and staff activities in accordance with hospital and departmental goals, objectives, policies and procedures.
- Updates departmental manuals, insures compliance thereto.
- Provides instruction and counseling to direct line staff.
- Insures adequate staffing through recruitment.
- Maintains new and existing programs as requested by CIO/Administration within established time frames.
- Displays a willingness and ability to solve problems at the highest level possible.
- Maintains Management, performance and technical competence levels consistent with enterprise and hospital standards.
- Keeps abreast of current healthcare topics, trends, and regulations through reading, research and seminars.
- Insures certification requirements are met for self and staff, as necessary.
- Monitors staff attendance at mandatory in-house education programs to insure compliance.
- Monitors staff performance and supervises on an ongoing basis and conducts formal evaluations at least annually of department staff.
Completes 100% of employee performance evaluations on time at 100% rate.
- Promotes effective communication and cooperation with employees, other managers, directors, administration, and physicians.
- Submits routine and special reports to Administration and others as necessary.
- Serves as a technical resource as required, by Hospital committees, Administration, physicians and other departments on IT, security, and all software applications.
- Maintains a 3-year IT needs assessment and ensures JHMH maintains meaningful use status.
- Ensures organizational compliance with HIPAA security rules and HITECH serving as IT Security Officer.
Routinely monitors and reports findings to CIO/Administration.
- Responsible for staff mentoring and coaching, technical competence on all IT systems.
- Responsible for hiring and disciplining (when applicable) of IT staff according to guidelines set by HR.
- Meet with the CIO on a weekly basis to report and strategize on hospital goals and projects.
- Create a proactive IT approach and strategy including a positive customer service attitude throughout the department.
Experience: 5+ years in an IT related field and 2+ years in IT Management experience (managing IT staff) required.
Hospital IT management preferred
Education: Minimum Associates Degree (Computer Science, Accounting, Math or Business) required, Bachelor’s Degree preferred
