Job Description

The IONM Manager, under the general supervision of the Intraoperative Neuromonitoring (IONM) Director, provides day-to-day management and planning of the IONM service of patients in the Operating Room.

The IONM Manager ensures that IONM service is provided on a timely and uninterrupted basis as required.
As a vital member of the surgical team, this individual works closely and collaborates with nurses, physicians, anesthesiologists and other medical staff caring for the patient.

The Manager may assume the direct supervision of clinical IONM services when the Director of Neuromonitoring Services is not available.
The IONM Manager reports to and provides support to the Director IONM Services by scheduling, monitoring and/or evaluating the work of assigned IOM staff.

Assures that IOM staff training requirements are met, may be required to train the IOM Trainee, and also performs intraoperative monitoring for both simple and complex surgical procedures as necessary.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Plans and prioritizes steps to achieve uninterrupted patient care

Oversees compliance of staff to infection control policies
3.

Provides feedback on daily staff performance
4.

Keeps and reviews daily time and attendance records and coordinates meal breaks

Manages the daily scheduling.

Ensures that all IONM reports are written in accordance to established protocols.

Designs and updates all IONM protocols.

Assigns equipment to daily cases ensuring that the proper protocols are followed.

Monitors hardware and software issues as they arise and collaborates with the equipment’s’ manufacturers and IT to resolve these issues.

In collaboration with the IONM Director, the IONM Manager periodically reviews IONM group’s policies and procedures.

Maintains inventory of all supplies and researches cost-effective alternatives to current supplies and vendors and makes recommendations in order to improve the supplies ordering process.

Oversees and verifies the accuracy of the database that includes all relevant information about monitored cases including date, surgeon, patient, hours of IONM, type of surgery, and results of monitoring.

Monitors the neurological aspects of the operative procedure and alerts surgeons of any changes outside of the normal nerve reactions.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in neuroscience, biology or related field
Preferred: Advanced Degree in Neurosciences.
CNIM Certification ABRET (Certification Examination in Neurophysiologic Intraoperative Monitoring)
Experience:
10+ years of IONM experience or at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
