Practice Area Profile The Corporate Finance & Strategy Practice (CFS) combines rich expertise in corporate strategy concepts with a management methodology designed to create sustainable value-add for BCG clients.
Our team provides extensive experience in planning and implementing corporate transactions including merger & acquisition deals and divestitures.
We deliver analytic approaches that allow senior management to effectively deal with challenges such as generating growth, managing a portfolio of assets, forming a world-class finance organization, understanding risk, and responding to the way capital markets assess companies today.

What You’ll Do BCG is continuing to expand its market-leading innovation practice as clients increasingly look for growth opportunities.
We are looking for an Expert Consultant who can help us grow this practice by supporting two of our innovation teams: Innovation Journey, which seeks to help large clients become more innovative by changing their strategies, practices, structures, and routines; And, the Center for Growth & Innovation Analytics (GIA), which uses sophisticated data science tools and techniques to surface emerging technologies and innovations, and help clients identify new opportunities and potential disruptions.
Candidates will bring significant experience in technology, analytics, and innovation.
Additionally, ideal candidates will have demonstrated success in managing client relationships and adding value to the product development process.
You will serve as an expert focused on helping clients spot new and emerging opportunities, generate new ideas, and implement those ideas effectively.
Additionally, you’ll help BCG build the Innovation topic, balancing a wide variety of activities and roles.
Some of these will include: Client Service (50%): You will be an active member of BCG project teams to help bring innovation expertise to our clients for both GIA and Innovation Journey.
To support clients, you will use various tools and approaches, from leveraging BCG’s Innovation to Impact (i2i) scoring tool, to analyzing a variety of datasets, including venture capital investments, intellectual property, and academic publications.
You will at times be a hands-on analyst staffed 50-100% for specific periods of time (e.g., several days to several weeks).
In these cases, you will be responsible for a specific module or piece of analysis, partnering closely with the case team and liaising directly with clients.
At other times you will engage with BCG teams and clients as an “expert advisor” with a smaller time allocation, helping the case team to determine their approach and to understand the client’s situation.
Business development (25%): You will contribute to business development by helping to bring an Innovation perspective and expertise to a wide variety of settings and by supporting proposal work.
This involves collaborating with Partners to determine how BCG could best support clients in their innovation aspirations and leveraging BCG’s extensive collateral to showcase our perspective in a manner that speaks to the client’s unique situation.
Topic development (25%): You will work closely with the senior team leading the Innovation topic to grow the business.
This means helping develop new publications, IP, tools, and approaches, and then ensuring their internal and external promotion.
As we have marketing and project successes, you will help the topic grow by sharing and building upon them, creating and giving presentations, raising awareness, and ensuring Innovation remains a priority within BCG and in the corporate and public-sector world.
Ultimately, you will be a Consultant in BCG’s Expert Consulting track (ECT).
Experts are vital to BCG’s ability to meet our clients’ demand for deep subject area knowledge and experience.
You will deliver next-level impact for BCG’s most complex and cutting-edge client challenges while furthering BCG’s thought leadership and capabilities.
What You’ll Bring (Experience & Qualifications) The ideal candidate possesses: 3-5 years of experience in consulting (particularly in analytics, data science, intellectual property, or research and development) or a combination of industry (particularly R&D, technology, growth, or strategy) and consulting experience 2 years of experience in the following: Data science or analytics with an emphasis on text analysis, prediction, and data mining Client management and business development, preferably in a consulting setting Intellectual property/patent research, technology transfers, or patent analytics Strong understanding of basic statistical concepts, including variable selection, sampling, and techniques to avoid over-fitting Knowledge of key measures of innovation, including patents, venture capital investments, and academic citations Familiarity with data science tools and visualization packages (e.g., Python, R, SQL), using techniques such as regression, natural language processing, machine learning, and network analytics Bachelor’s or master’s degree (preferred) with high academic achievement required.
Degrees in chemistry, engineering, computer science, applied math/physics, or life sciences are ideal Who You’ll Work With BCG’s Innovation practice is a central part of the Corporate Finance and Strategy practice, the largest Practice Area within BCG, and one that has been central to BCG’s mission since BCG began over a half century ago.
Consequently, the Innovation team works closely with leaders throughout BCG on a wide variety of clients and cases.
Our success requires us to leverage BCG’s vast resources effectively in order to bring the best possible solution to clients.
This often leads us to partner with other teams in BCG, including GAMMA, Platinion, and Digital Ventures.
YOU’LL BE BASED IN US / Canada: Location is flexible to any US or Canadian city where BCG currently has an office (Boston, New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Detroit, Chicago, Minneapolis, Atlanta, Miami, Houston, Dallas, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Toronto, Montreal, Calgary).
