JOB SUMMARY:The marketing communications department is responsible for shaping and driving the firm’s marketing and communications strategy, and aligning communications and marketing initiatives with firm business objectives, through a variety of distribution platforms.
The Executive Communications Director will focus on developing messages and communication opportunities for the firm’s senior executives and serve as a dedicated advisor and thought partner to the chief of marketing communications on key firm communications.We are looking for a dynamic leader who will drive communication strategies for the firm’s senior leaders and initiatives.
The successful applicant will be able to grasp the nuances of a unique law firm culture and convey strategic messages through appropriate distribution vehicles.
They will be our internal clients’ trusted advisor, the department chief’s trusted deputy, a master of coordination and project management, a strong colleague of a team of creative professionals, a logistics guru and a detail maven.
We’re looking for a strategic thinker who can build strong relationships across the firm and connect ideas and information from across a broad landscape.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:* Conceive, articulate and disseminate strategic messages and suggest effective means of communicating components of firm’s strategic plan to internal audiences.* Map out executive plan for leadership and advise senior executives on both the content of message and delivery of communications* Create, propose and justify strategic themes to carry forth in internal communications and in alignment with external messaging.* Supervise crafting/writing of key communications directed at various groups within the firm.
Plan and execute content for various firm-wide partner gatherings, road shows/tours, meetings and other special firm events* Draft speeches and create presentations for internal and external audiences for the benefit of senior executives.* Manage content in partner communications in its various forms –
– e.g., the firm’s internal website, digital articles, videos, podcasts* Actively assess interpersonal or organizational dynamics/issues of given situation and advise/guide on appropriate interaction/communication style or vehicle* Supervise speechwriter dedicated to senior leadership.ESSENTIAL CAPABILITIES:* Ability to drive both strategy and tactical execution, in highly visible role.* Top-quality writing skills; ability to digest complex ideas and translate into understandable, compelling writing that is persuasive and effective and tailored to specific audiences.* Have the gravitas and credibility necessary to gain the trust of senior executives.* Be anticipatory and proactive in planning and implementing communications programs and projects.* Proven track record of leading complex enterprise-wide and cross-functional communications programs in a fast-paced environment.* Distill and communicate key messages rapidly and succinctly; work with team members to develop graphically rich communications materials on a variety of platforms.* Create a logical structure, clear storyline and conclusions in all written materials (presentations, memos, e-mails, etc.).* Demonstrate sensitivity to partners and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality of the firm’s internal affairs.* Understand, internalize and function in a unique corporate culture.* Work collegially in a roll-up-your-sleeves culture in which team members at all levels do what it takes to get the job done.EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:* Bachelor’s Degree is required; advanced degree, MBA, or JD is preferred.
Minimum of 12 years of communications, journalism, speechwriting, law or rich life experience.* A career in law is not a requirement; a curiosity about the law is.* Must be able to communicate effectively at all levels across all departments.* Superior writing skills; experience writing for and to senior business executives.* Strong listening skills; digest, process and guide strategy and problem resolution.* Ability to interact comfortably with senior executives, partners, senior staff and various constituent groups.* Highly organized and energetic leader; experienced team leader that has created a culture of creativity, learning, inclusion, and successWORKING CONDITIONS:Incumbent is expected to work the hours necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.The above is intended to describe the general content of and requirements for the performance of this job.
