Energy Storage Senior Consultant

Local Unit & Position Description

DNV’s Storage and Grid Edge Intelligence (SAGE Intel) team is seeking Senior Energy Storage Consultant to be focused on energy storage and hybrid (renewable plus storage) system analytics, technology evaluation and business model consulting. Our customers are private equity investors, banks, Independent Power Producers (IPPs), project developers and electric utilities. The Consultant will work across utility scale, commercial and industrial (C&I) and residential markets for energy storage systems, hybrid systems, microgrids and distributed energy resources. The Consultant will use energy system modeling, operations research, and predictive analytics to develop decision metrics for energy storage systems performance and valuation. This position will include responsibility for project leadership, inter-disciplinary business support and business development. This position will be key in growing DNV’s Energy Storage Advisory practice offering innovative solutions in storage systems, hybrid renewable plus storage systems and the future of the electrical distribution system.

Broad knowledge of the electric industry is preferred, including market and technology trends and awareness of regulatory proceedings and policies at both the state and national level. 

This position will be based in our Chalfont, PA or Portland, OR office. However, other office locations or work from home can be considered as well.

Tasks May Include

  • Managing projects and/or project tasks, executing deliverables
  • Modeling energy systems using DNV GL developed, self-built or Off The Shelf (OTS) software tools
  • Daily interaction with customers in person or via phone or video
  • Understanding customer needs or gaps and offering technical solutions to cover those needs
  • Analyzing and interpreting technical data and documents
  • Summarizing key results, and communicating and reporting these results in verbal and written form
  • Leading or assisting staff in the development of new business and projects
  • Presenting or aiding in the development of presentation materials for conferences and workshops
  • Leading or assisting in the development of new proposals
  • Provide input on strategic planning and marketing decisions
  • Lead a team to deliver high-quality deliverables on time and on budget

Position Qualifications

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years of industry experience in the renewable energy industry.
  • Familiarity with financial pro-forma analysis.
  • Capability to understand digital engineering models and perform engineering modeling to support technical or business decisions.
  • Candidates should have at least four of the following skill sets (more preferred):
    • Experience in power systems modeling
    • Experience renewable energy systems modeling and/or energy storage systems modeling
    • Experience with financial pro-forma modeling
    • Experience with review or design of energy engineering hardware systems. Energy storage hardware experience preferred.
    • Experience in electrical engineering laboratory testing functions. Energy storage testing or energy storage safety experience preferred.
    • Experience with Operations Research Models and Programming
    • Experience with data analytics related to millions of entries
    • Experience with managing and working with large databases
  • Strong skills in engineering modeling and statistical modeling software including at-least two of the following software platforms:
    • Python
    • Matlab
    • R
    • Microsoft Excel
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong ability to work in and contribute to project team(s)
  • Business development or involvement in industry groups or committees is desired
  • Ability to be customer-facing
  • Interpersonal skills, customer interaction, and solid speaking and presentation skills
  • An eye for detail and desire to deliver a quality work product
  • Comfort with equipment common to the energy industry
  • Comfort with interpreting, analyzing, and synthesizing data
  • Maintain a customer-focused, consultative approach to projects and customer needs
  • Work within expected deadlines, while being adaptive to changing scope or customer needs
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% of the time
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
  • We conduct pre-employment drug and background screening

Preferred Skills

  • Master’s degree or higher preferred.
  • PhD in Electrical Engineering (with some internship experience) may be in lieu of experience.
  • Experience in energy storage systems is preferred.
