As the Director of Video Engineering you will own the cloud-based services that power our entire media processing and delivery pipeline: the very core of Frame.io.
You are a hands-on leader who enjoys getting deep on architecture and infrastructure while mentoring and growing a high performance team.
You’ll collaborate with stakeholders in product engineering, backend services, SRE and security to develop and execute on the media services roadmap.

Requirements 10 years of overall technical experience, including deep knowledge of architecture and operations of highly available, large-scale backend services for media Familiar with broadcast and professional media formats and workflows.
You are obsessed with innovating and building a team capable of leveraging the growing capabilities of cloud infrastructure and low latency networks Knowledge / understanding of audio video encoding such as H.264, AAC, HEVC, AV1 or streaming formats such as HLS, MPEG-DASH and also live streaming Experience delivering solutions utilizing DRM (Widevine, PlayReady) and HLS-AES Knowledge of advanced and emerging video standards such as HDR10, Dolby Vision, 360 videos Comfort working with the technologies we use (Cloudfront, LambdaEdge, API Gateway, EKS, EC2, Docker, Kubernetes, FFMpeg) and experience coding in Python, C++ and/or Golang You have a record of owning best-in-class operations and observability for mission critical technology services at scale You have a love of great products and product design You have an eye for frame accuracy and experience with both video players and the playback metrics that matter to deliver fast reliable video to users across web and mobile devices.
Responsibilities Lead, manage and attract talent to grow the media services team to new levels of performance in an inclusive environment Assess current infrastructure and work with the team to plan, architect, and execute new end-to-end multimedia-focused services and infrastructure for our customers Establish and own our playback metrics to ensure customers experience the highest levels of playback speed, quality and availability Provide strategic insights on the global video landscape to key stakeholders and look for opportunities to innovate in collaboration with product engineering Recommend strategies to balance delivery quality with infrastructure costs and make decisions on build vs buy Maintain the highest levels of security including development of security features around media delivery
