OPPORTUNITY
This position is responsible for producing aluminum extruded shapes that meet customer specifications by operating saws, moving material, operating an extrusion press, packing material, moving dies, participating in 5S initiatives, etc.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following description of work to be performed by this individual is not intended to be all-inclusive. Rather, it focuses on the major tasks that must be accomplished.
- Ensure that safety is always the number one priority at Alexandria Industries; promote and support a safe work environment and safety oriented culture by following all safety programs and guidelines
- Set up and run equipment safely and efficiently in order to maximize output while meeting customer quality requirements: head stretcher, tail stretcher, saw, material handling
- Support the company’s key corporate values, objectives and strategies
- Cross-train in as many functions in the department as possible
- Understand and verify manufacturing orders in order to identify internal and customer specifications
- Conduct all processes and procedures in accordance with department key measures
- Ensure all quality practices are being followed accurately and efficiently
- Keep work area clean and orderly using 5S system (standardize, sustain, sort, set in order and shine)
- Meet delivery schedules to ensure customer service and satisfaction
- Perform general machine maintenance as necessary to keep equipment in a well maintained condition
Aluminum log handling
- Accurately identify material
- Safely unload logs from log trailers and ensure that the yard log and storage areas are organized at all times
- Safely dump scrap in scrap trailers
Head Stretcher
- Conduct die changes and assist in the die heating process when necessary
- Take and correctly mark end samples
- Set-up required tooling
- Properly inspect samples per process control plan and EPS according to customer required surface finish and tolerances
- Verify extrusion dimensions based on customer specifications using the smartscope
Tail Stretcher
- Operate the tail stretcher
- Assist in all other areas when necessary
Saw Operation
- Set-up the saw
- Verify cut length and tolerance (use buddy system to audit cut length)
- Monitor saw blade condition and lubrication
- Properly and safely remove and replace saw blades
- Safely operate the saw
- Follow the process control plan and extrusion process sheet (EPS)
Wagon Loader
- Stack aluminum extrusions following stacking criteria per manufacturing order
- Inspect and stack the aluminum extrusions in a safe and accurate manner
- Build the wagon to maximize oven loads
- Load the wagon into the age ovens
- Properly inspect samples per process control plan and EPS according to customer required surface finish and tolerances
- Assist the saw operator when necessary
Age Oven Preparation
- Stage material according to alloy and temper per manufacturing order
- Perform inspection of load prior to it entering the age oven
OTHER JOB DUTIES (Not considered essential to the job)
Perform all other related assignments (including special projects) as required in a professional and cooperative manner.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent degree
2. Experience:
- 2+ years of manufacturing experience preferred
3. Other required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Basic computer skills (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Ability to recognize safety concerns
- Ability to utilize the proper inspection equipment per designated area
- Highly motivated self-starter
- Basic math skills
- Ability to read die drawings and inspect parts and surface finish according to customer specifications
- Ability to effectively work in a team environment
- Ability to take part in additional training
- Ability to perform and assist with preventive maintenance
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Effective problem solving skills
- Ability to multi-task
- Ability to properly identify materials
- Complete understanding of the age cycle and the effect it has on the material
- Ability to use the overhead cranes and lift trucks
