Job Description

Compass Pointe has an immediate opportunity for a Director of IT.

This position is located in the Baltimore area, outside of the City.

This is a DIRECT HIRE position.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Director of IT is responsible for all systems, infrastructure, technical staff, technology vendor partnerships, and developing, managing, and leading all technology projects.

Serving as a change agent within the organization, this role will provide a technology road map leading initiatives to continually improve internal systems and content delivery mechanisms serving our mission, vision, and strategic goals.

This role leads the technology coordination and acts as the Security Officer, responsible for maintaining security protocols and awareness and for managing data processes that minimize risk.

The Director of IT serves as the “go-to” resource for internal users and works directly with internal stakeholders to understand the requirements/issues, manage IT-related projects using project management best practices, select the best solutions, configure the systems, promote adoption, and document solutions.

Reporting to the Executive Director, this role balances projects with daily support activities that promote progress on the technology roadmap.

The Director is a member of the senior staff leadership team.

The Director must maintain a climate that attracts, retains, and motivates top-quality personnel, both paid and volunteer.

Currently, the IT team consists of four individuals.

A 3 rd party provides network administration and help desk support.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategy and Governance

· Lead the technology team.

· Actively participate as a member of the Leadership Team.

· Engage all staff to communicate updates, providing training where needed to ensure successful adoption and promotion of platforms and resources.

Cultivate positive relationships with all stakeholders and work towards a unified staff approach.

· Understand the strategic direction of all business units and identify and plan technology initiatives to help achieve the organization’s strategic goals.

· Attend Board meetings and work collaboratively with the lead volunteer for technology strategy.

· Direct departmental operations including personnel; training and development; budget preparation and administration; short/long term forecasting; and continual process improvement.

· Create annual operational and capital expenditure budgets for IT projects and activities, recommending opportunities to reduce expense where appropriate.

· Review invoices against project logs and budget projections, adjusting project priorities, and vendor utilization where needed.

· Develop, monitor, and report on key performance indicators.

· Maintain advanced knowledge of industry best practices.

IT Operations

  • Evaluate vendor utilization and resources, providing recommendations where needed for increased efficiency, effective budgetary spend, and enhanced support.

  • Establish and drive accountability related to project management principles, technique, and methodology.

  • Leverage project management methodology to implement the technology road map, providing regular updates on progress and milestones reached.

  • Oversee and manage third-party vendor relationships; monitoring service levels, budget spend, project prioritization, and general commitment delivery and accountability.

  • Ensure quality of day-to-day technical support for internal end users.

  • Ensure a complete asset inventory is maintained.

Infrastructure

· In coordination with the managed services provider, maintain internal inventory of Active Directory accounts, and documentation of IP address mapping, servers, and network devices.

· In coordination with the managed services provider, maintain inventory of workstations, printers and hardware appliances owned by the association.

· Ensure appropriate backups of the association’s assets are being made and tested on a regular schedule.

· Ensure software license keys, API keys and passwords for administrator and other privileged accounts are being maintained securely.

Security

  • Develop strategies and solutions to provide for the overall security of IT systems and networks.

  • Serve as lead technology coordinator and Security Officer executing the responsibilities outlined on incident response plans.

  • Ensure the proper design, creation, and maintenance of user roles, profiles, and hierarchies of security profile to provide an appropriate level of access for staff users.

  • Ensure onboarding and offboarding processes are utilized and maintained to ensure appropriate records and access controls.

  • Ensure server and application changes are logged and technical documentation is maintained for current assets.

  • Coordinate any internal or 3 rd party audits required.

  • Ensure ongoing staff training on cyber security.

Application Management

  • Evaluate technology platforms, website infrastructure, content delivery channels, and partners, providing a road map to position as a digital-first organization.

  • Continually seek innovative solutions to enhance the member, customer, and staff experience.

  • Maintain the repository of available software and essential internal staff tools.

Other duties, as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCIES REQUIREMENTS:

-Must have PMP

-Experience working with Vendors and outsourced vendors is required

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in Technology, Computer Science, project management, or a similar degree required.

  • 10+ years of IT experience required, with progressively advancing responsibilities.

    3+ years of direct people management experience is required.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP )certification is a plus
  • Knowledge of Association Management Systems is strongly preferred with Fonteva knowledge a plus.

  • Experience with a professional association is preferred; additional experience in other technical environments preferred.

  • Detail oriented and motivated.

  • Proven technical skills, and analytical and problem-solving abilities.

· Experience developing and managing a complex budget including risk and issue management.

· A collaborative and flexible style with the ability to mentor and lead technical teams.

· Must be a strong team leader and player with the ability to influence downward, sideways, and upwards.

  • An effective communicator, with exceptional oral and written skills.

  • Demonstrated ability in managing 3 rd party vendors.

  • Ability to meet deadlines without sacrificing quality while handling multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Superior organizational, diplomatic, and motivational skills.

Additional Expectations:

  • Working outside of traditional work hours to meet production deadlines and/or handle technology emergencies may be required.

  • Domestic travel for in-person events, including board meetings and conferences.

    Travel is 2x a year for National Meetings.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Must have the ability to perform moderately strenuous activities and stamina to work long hours as required.
