Director, Managing – VAS

The Valuation Advisory Services (VAS) team provides comprehensive valuation, advisory and consulting services for real estate owners, investors and lenders, combining our specialized expertise and premier technologies to deliver industry-leading valuation reports and analysis.

CBRE is a leader in the real estate service industry and the VAS Managing Director role is accountable in ensuring VAS is recognized as the top valuation services provider within their respective areas of influence.

The Managing Director VAS position is a market facing leadership role accountable for the growth and performance of all VAS lines of business. Key areas of focus include driving client outcomes, talent (recruit, develop, and retain), enabling an optimized operating model, and deployment and adoption of key platform initiatives.

Individuals in this role always act legally and within the parameters of accepted business practice. In addition, they should not undertake in any course of action that may result in legal action against CBRE or otherwise bring the company into disrepute.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage a team of producers and is responsible for overseeing the performance of direct reports, managing workloads, ensuring performance targets are met and ensuring that direct reports are following practice area guidelines and quality and risk management protocols. Proactively focus on maximizing performance to ensure the achievement of individual and team goals.

Oversees the training, development, mentoring and regular monitoring of direct report’s performance. Resolves conflicts and addresses sensitive situations. Motivates and influences others. Regularly exercises discretion and independent judgment in management of all activities under their direct management.

Active participation in leadership meetings, responsible for sharing and communicating the VAS strategy, supporting execution and delivery of strategic initiatives. Actively contribute to team meetings demonstrating a willingness to share ideas and information.

This role is responsible for delivering the financial goals of the business, including revenue, operating margin (DOP &SOP) and market share.

Responsible for client engagement and creating new client relationships, expanding existing relationships, and focusing on client outcomes. Promote the broader CBRE business when dealing with clients and to be aware of cross selling opportunities within the business.

Manages the planning, organization and controls for the Valuations team in the market area. Responsible for quality control, training and mentoring to ensure best in class work product.

Deliver development pathways for our professionals. Drive specialization and productivity. Manage performance to ensure we have the top professionals in the market.

Coordinate with local CBRE leadership (non-VAS) ensuring participation, collaboration, and overall engagement with the local office. Ensure recognition of VAS services across all lines of business in the LMA. Be an extension of the local leadership team.

Participates in development, deployment, and adoption of key VAS technology initiatives with focus on enhancing productivity and a consistently high-quality product. Promote and drive adoption of leading-edge operating platform, including technology and data as they are developed or supported within the company Digital &Technology strategy. Promote and drive adoption of operational best practices to achieve operational excellence, promoting national standardization and consistency.

Attend local industry events and develop a ‘thought leadership’ positioning in the local market. Drives innovation and thought leadership. This person will serve as a key industry and business spokesperson and “face of CBRE” to the community and industry.

Effectively manages risk identified through CBRE’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Program and the VAS Quality Risk Management (QRM) policies and procedures.

Actively promotes and ensures adherence to the VAS Practice Area Guidelines (PAG).

Understands and communicates the CBRE corporate strategy and the VAS strategy.

Drive and reward the behaviors that model the culture of engaging people through the organization and are aligned with our RISE values.

Foster a culture that drives collaboration and information sharing across the matrix to ensure comprehensive analysis and decision making.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Manages the planning, organization, and controls for a major functional area or department. May be responsible for a mix of direct and matrix reports. Responsible for staff recruitment, selection, promotion, advancement, corrective action and termination. Effectively recommends same for direct reports to next level management for review and approval. Monitors appropriate staffing levels and reports on utilization and deployment of human resources. Leads and supports staff in areas of staffing, selection, training, development, coaching, mentoring, measuring, rewarding performance and retention. Leads by example and models behaviors that are consistent with the company’s values.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree (BA, BS) from College or University required; Master’s degree preferred (MA, MS or MBA).
A minimum of 7years of commercial real estate experience.
Prior experience in a supervisory and/or leadership position with direct reports and team oversight responsibilities required.

CERTIFICATES and/or LICENSES
Applicable Real Estate Licenses and/or professional designations preferred.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret the most complex business documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive issues. Ability to write reports, manuals, speeches and articles using distinctive style. Ability to make effective and persuasive presentations on complex topics to employees, clients, top management and/or public groups. Ability to motivate and negotiate effectively with key employees, top management, and client groups to take desired action.

FINANCIAL KNOWLEDGE
Requires in-depth knowledge of financial terms and principles. Reviews complex financial/business analysis and reports prepared by subordinates. Ability to analyze the most complex business/financial data and develop innovative solutions. Develops and implements financial policies and procedures. Approves and oversees department budget.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve advanced problems and deal with a variety of options in complex situations. Requires expert level analytical and quantitative skills with proven experience in developing strategic solutions for a growing matrix-based multi-industry sales environment. Draws upon the analysis of others and makes recommendations that have a direct impact on the company.

OTHER SKILLS and/or ABILITIES
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications.
Strong ability to build, maintain, and seek out new relationships with clients, prospects and internal CBRE stakeholders.
Ability to direct and influence within key relationships to help growth the business and meet client needs.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY
Decisions made with in-depth understanding and interpretation of procedures, company policies and business practices to achieve general results. Responsible for setting department deadlines. Errors in judgment may cause long-term impact to co-workers, supervisor, department and/or line of business.
