– $113,220 Essential Functions and Objectives: Broad responsibility for leading a team of managers to execute against the overall business plan, based on guidance from leadership.
Directs, plans and oversees team initiatives, to ensure implementation and administration of programs align with district goals.
Serves as a member of the Student Equity & Opportunity leadership team, supporting the Associate Chief of Student Equity & Opportunity in creating a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and learning.
Provides overall vision and direction for all gifted & talented administrators, team members, teachers, and relevant office staff in the development of services for students that have been identified and students going through the process of being identified as gifted and talented learners and twice exceptional learners, while aligning activities of gifted and talented education with district goals and objectives and partnerships with other departments including, but not limited to: special education, 504, nursing and student health, mental health, academics, culture, equity, and federal programs.
– Deeply focuses on ensuring alignment to district initiatives by organizing and prioritizing initiatives, formulating a successful agenda, and delivering instructions to managers.
– Directs operational units by acting as a business advisor to managers, including: make final decisions, examine and evaluate current process, identify and solve barriers.
Develop methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for projects and programs.
Ensures budget and schedules meet all business requirements.
– Develops policies and programs, authorizes and influences implementation of these programs, uses innovative concepts, and promotes new ideas.
Influence projects by participating in initial planning, assigning teams, directing work, evaluating progress, making decisions and advising on issues.
– Coordinate and build collaborative relationships with cross functional departments internally and positively represent DPS in the broader community which includes school boards, CDE, parents, students, teachers and community members.
– Ensure compliance with state and federal laws, Board of Education policies and regulations, maintain and direct activities related to the District’s safety and security efforts.
– Coach, direct and set team managers up for success by delegating work, solving complex issues, empowering improvement, and monitoring performance.

– Creates and reports on comprehensive performance measures to monitor the effectiveness of the program.
– Performs supervisory duties, including, but not limited to: hiring, training, delegating and evaluating.
– Coordinates and facilitates culturally responsive gifted education professional development to support teachers’ continuous learning and improvement of practice related to culturally responsive equitable gifted education.
– Creates, fosters, and maintains culturally responsive relationships with families and community partners around access and opportunities within programming and identification for students.
– Assists in developing the department’s equity-focused budget(s) and grants, manages financial reporting and ensures program-related databases are accurately maintained.
Knowledge, Experience & Other Qualifications:
– At least five (5) years of teaching, supervising, and direct leadership experience in gifted & talented education and/or related fields.
– State Director of Gifted Education License or demonstrated ability to obtain licensure within 1 year of hire.
– Knowledge and understanding of effective curriculum and instruction best practices.
– Expertise in the provision of specialized education services.
– Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations.
– Experience in analyzing data, and using this data to for process and program improvements and to inform strategy.
– Outstanding facilitation and communication skills, including ability to inspire others.
– Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including the ability to lead a high-performing team.
– Superior leadership, coaching and mentoring skills.
