This position acts as a hands-on Director of Facilities to stand up and manage our non-manufacturing facilities. Duties include project management for site selection, lease negotiation, design and buildout for new spaces and overseeing ongoing operations of offices and technology and development centers. Operational duties include implementing policies and safety procedures, engaging with vendors and contractors, minimizing hazards, preparing facilities budgets and monitoring expenditure, designing and planning workstations, coordinating remodeling and refurbishment initiatives, testing equipment, forecasting space needs, and ensuring compliance with zoning laws.

The ideal candidate for this role should possess good communication skills, excellent organizational skills, broad knowledge of business functions, and project management experience. The director of facilities must understand the technical aspects of the property, support day to day business operations, ensure efficient operation of facilities, mitigate risk, and ensure that facilities meet the needs of clients and staff.

The ultimate goal of the position is to create integrated workspaces across the organization, minimizing disruptions to overall business operations, improving working conditions, and creating a safe and comfortable environment for both staff and clients.

  • Working closely with other teams at Canoo to plan and execute the overall strategy to design, buildout and stand up the new offices in the Canoo ecosystem including facility finish out, construction, IT systems, managing teams, projects, etc.
  • Institute effective program management processes, tools, and best practices to bring efficiency and support collaboration
  • Review budget to align to proposed Canoo operating budgets
  • Oversee security, cleaning, and catering, waste disposal and contractors
  • Schedule and supervise renovations and maintenance repair work
  • Scheduling renovations
  • Training staff on safety procedures in connection with the Dir, Safety
  • Ensuring compliance with regulations and laws
  • Monitor employee growth trends and assist in ensuring space is available for growth
  • Designing and planning facilities layout reconfiguring to accommodate growth
  • Be engaged and proactive in Corporate Social Responsibility and Energy/Sustainability programs

Required Experience

  • Bachelor s degree in Business, Engineering, Property Management or equivalent professional level experience
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in facilities maintenance or equivalent field
  • Knowledge of OSHA and other environmental regulations
  • Knowledge of general maintenance methods, operating requirements, and safety precautions related to facilities management
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong procurement and negotiating skills
  • Project management experience
  • Multitasking abilities
  • Computer literacy in programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Highly organized and good problem-solving skills
  • Ability to travel up to 25 percent to other Canoo office locations

Preferred Experience

  • Bachelor s Degree in Business, Engineering, or equivalent professional level experience
