The VA Maryland Care System, in partnership with the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Department of Neurology, is seeking an Epilepsy specialist for this “leader in the field” position. The position is based at the Baltimore VA Medical Center, fully academically affiliated with the Department of Neurology of the University of Maryland with access to research funding from the VA. The Director of this center in the national program of VA Epilepsy Centers of Excellence supervises a staff of 4 physicians, nurse practitioner, technicians, fellows and administrative staff. The Director is the face of the VA Maryland Epilepsy Center of Excellence at regional and national meetings.

The position carries with it an academic rank of Associate or full Professor at the School of Medicine, with duties that include supervision and teaching of medical students, residents and epilepsy fellows.

Ideal Candidate:   Strong ability to provide leadership and strategic direction, while maintaining a robust educational program and advancing clinical care for patients with epilepsy.   

Requirements:

• Full and unrestricted MD/DO license (from any state)  
• Board Certified in Neurology and Epilepsy
• History of successful leadership and academic accomplishments
• Highly motivated, team-oriented, and committed to Epilepsy care, education, and research.

The Baltimore VA Medical Center offers Veterans state-of-the-art technology including video-EEG motioning and clinical services, and is the acute medical and surgical care facility for the VA Maryland Health Care System which offers a full range of inpatient, outpatient and primary care services.  The Baltimore VA Medical Center is physically connected to its academic affiliate, the University of Maryland Medical Center, on the campus of the University of Maryland at Baltimore. The Epilepsy Division of the Department of Neurology has 10 faculty members, with monitoring, imaging and laboratory facilities for epilepsy clinical and pre-clinical research. It is located in a vibrant city neighborhood within walking distance of Oriole Park at Camden Yards, M&T Bank Stadium (home of the Baltimore Ravens), Lexington Market and the Inner Harbor.

The Baltimore VAMC has one of the largest funded research and development programs in the VA system enhancing the medical center’s ability to provide state-of-the-art medical techniques and treatments to Maryland’s Veterans, as well as support for investigator initiated and collaborative research.
