Howard Foundation works nationwide with public and private colleges and universities, recruiting diverse students for internship opportunities across the U.S.
The Foundation also provides career development and full-time job placement services to members of its programs.
The Foundation is seeking an experienced, tech savvy Director to implement its new Diversity –TECH Internship Program, targeting diverse STEM students.
Following a 6-month training period in the Silver Spring, Maryland office, under the supervision of the President and CEO, the Diversity Tech Program Director will be located in California and manage and implement the Foundation’s Diversity Tech Internship Program.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to supervise staff, counsel college students of diverse backgrounds, and a comfort level working with high-level executives and hiring managers in Tech fields.
Diversity Tech Program Responsibilities
Recruitment
Plan, create and oversee execution of the recruitment strategy for the Diversity Tech Program
Cultivate and maintain relationships with university career and support services offices
Host recruitment events targeting STEM students, attend career fairs, diversity panels and public speaking events
Oversee the creation of recruitment marketing materials for the Diversity Tech Program
Manage full cycle of recruiting from outreach to application review, screening and final placement decisions
Placement/Host Company Management
Develop and manage relationships with HR and diversity personnel at host companies to identify and secure internship opportunities
Select candidates for internship placements with host company partners
Ensure that THF meets internship placement goals for the Diversity Tech Program
Establish and enforce policies surrounding student selection and participation in internships
Develop and improve policies and procedures for efficient and effective placement processes with host company partners
Work to improve the internship experience by enhancing student services (mid-summer check-in, webinars, online resources, etc.)
Assist in the planning and execution of summer intern orientation (located in Silver Spring, MD) including developing curriculum, identifying speakers, generating learning outcomes, and completing assessment
Application
Review and evaluate admissions processes and policies annually for improvement
Manage the application cycle and admissions timeline
Approve program admissions decisions
Manage the interview process
Administrative Responsibilities
Financial Management
– Manage the program within budget constraints, make recommendations to the President regarding program expenditures
Reporting
– Provide program updates and reports to Diversity Tech Advisory Committee of the T.
Howard Board of Directors and THF President and make recommendations that will improve the efficiency and quality of the program
Meetings
– Attend (virtually) and report program progress at weekly operations meetings, participate in conference calls and attend meetings with President as needed
Qualifications and Requirements
Master’s degree plus three years of related work experience, or Bachelor’s degree plus five years of related work experience, preferably in tech recruiting, higher education, program management, career counseling, HR or related field
Previous recruiting experience; technical recruiting experience is a plus
Excellent oral and written communication with strong emphasis on presentation skills
Proven ability in managing multiple demands and projects
Effectively represent the mission of the Foundation
Work effectively with a wide range of audiences including board members, students, alumni and partner company contacts
Required to work some evening and weekend hours, including overnight travel
Valid driver’s license required
Self-starter; able to work with limited oversight in a remote work environment
Fluency in Spanish a plus
Salary and Benefits:
This position offers a salary commensurate with experience, excellent benefits including ten days paid vacation, employee medical, dental and vision covered by the Foundation, plus a retirement plan.

COVID-19 considerations:
The THF Offices are currently closed and all staff are working remotely.
When it is determined that it is safe to return, this position will report into the Silver Spring, MD office for 6 months and then will relocate permanently to California.
