Job Summary
As a member of the Business Risk Management leadership team, develops and implements strategic and operational plans related to the implementation of BRM’s vision, mission and overall goals and objectives.
Serves as liaison to senior executives in the Asset Management divisions including Investment Operations, Mutual Funds, Broker-Dealer, Investment Advisor, Transfer Agent, Trust Companies, among others.
Prepare and deliver presentations to Mutual Fund Board of Directors and Audit Committees, as well as investment affiliate boards of directors.
This position works closely with the business leaders and BRM staff in developing and executing the BRM audit plan.
Manages and develops staff carrying out risk assessments and audit assignments.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
Build and maintain a high-performing team; select, develop, coach, reward and recognize team members.
Provide leadership and direction to the department for the development of a comprehensive risk management framework focusing on investments and asset management risk.
Supervise and provide work direction to staff and co-sourcing resources to ensure the successful completion of department objectives.
Provide support and guidance to senior business leaders in identifying, analyzing and managing their business risks in relation to desired business objectives.
Lead efforts to audit or conduct investment and asset management risk assessments across the organization.
Maintain extensive subject matter expertise in the area of investments, business environment risks, and related governance practices, including relevant laws and regulations, industry changes and the impact of technology.
Monitor and keep abreast of industry developments and risks and determine the impact on Thrivent.
Make any necessary adjustments to audit plans regarding emerging risks.
Work with Head of BRM in support of departmental planning, budgeting, recruiting and results measurement (scorecard) as well as providing the Finance and Audit Committee of the Board of Directors with relevant and useful information.
Prepare materials and present to mutual fund and legal entity boards of directors.
Manage assurance and consulting projects within desired budgets and timelines.
Coordinate efforts with external auditors to enhance the quality of information available to them and avoid redundancy of efforts.
Review the results from relevant audits and exams performed by outside auditors and regulatory agencies to ensure appropriate corrective actions are taken.
Required Job Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, or finance.
(Other degrees considered with sufficient, relevant work experience.) Advanced degree desirable.
Significant business experience (10+ years) in investment, mutual fund, asset management or financial services.
CIA designation required.
Other industry related designations (CPA, CIA, CFA, CFSA, JD, CLU, ChFC, or FLMI) highly desirable.
Significant experience working with investments and asset management, including mutual funds and/or insurance separate accounts highly required.
