The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Community Impact Director within our Bay Area Division based in Oakland, California.

The ability to work effectively from home is required.

This position involves regular work performed from remote locations for business meetings and events which are outdoors and regular meetings in the Oakland office.

Under the supervision of the Senior Community Impact Director and direction of division leaders, the Community Impact Director will drive the execution of division impact goals by focusing on identified priority areas: Corporate Wellness and Community Impact Programs.

Effectively develop, plan, and execute corporate sponsorship activations by focusing on collaboration with Development, Community Impact, Advocacy and Communications & Marketing partners.

Serve as internal consultant to the market on community and corporate health strategies and trends with a specialized focus on programs to drive health improvement for top employers and diverse communities.

The Community Impact Director will serve as facilitator, planner, and project manager for key corporate account activations driving towards mutually agreed upon outcomes, objectives, and key metrics.

Develop curriculum for programs and workshops series’ that leverage AHA science and resources.

Effective communication through meetings, presentations, workshops, and emails to internal partners, corporate account stakeholders, and diverse program audience.

Articulate the AHA’s mission and science with a focus on health equity and wellness.

Create reports/ communications for internal and external partners outlining progress towards deliverables and metrics.

In this position, the Community Impact Director will be responsible for building a network of meaningful volunteer partnerships to advance the mission of the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association.

Provide timely direction, framework and resources to volunteers and expert speakers while at the same time relying on their expertise, abilities and willingness to leverage their networks to drive the goals of the organization.

Share meaningful opportunities for volunteers so they can utilize their passion to further the mission of the organization.

Create a collaborative environment where staff from various functions work together to achieve results across health, revenue and volunteerism goals for the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively build a network of meaningful volunteer and partner relationships to create a sustainable culture of health within the communities served.

    Proactively lead and identify, recruit, orient and retains volunteers consisting of senior level executives and community leaders within the market to drive the overall community action plan.

  • With the Senior Director of Community Impact, Vice President of Development, Vice President of Corporate Accounts, and/or Vice President of Community Impact, develop corporate account plans and plan details of activations / sponsorship deliverables.

    Plan should include an engagement plan for key volunteers and employee engagement.

    Bring programs to scale leveraging marketing insights and trends for engagement, therefore driving sustainability and ensuring renewal of sponsorship.

    Develop written plan to communicate the impact the AHA is having within the market to be shared with internal audiences, volunteers, local board, strategic partners, and funder (while applicable).

  • Plan, facilitate, and project manage corporate wellness presentations and programs.

    Develop curriculum for community facing activations and ensure all deliverables of sponsorship are met.

  • Drive direct health impact through policy, system and environmental changes and strategic health initiatives/ programs via targeted strategic community alliances (i.e., faith-based institutions, FQHCs, community centers etc.) and corporate relationships (i.e., Top 25 Companies, sponsors, etc.)
  • Collaborate with advocacy and community impact to understand the local public policy focus and strategy to address significant population reach that will drive to the reduction of health disparities in diverse audiences and work with the development team to fund those strategies and share opportunities for engagement with corporate partners.
  • Articulate the CVD health problem in and across communities and what AHA is doing to address the problem within the community.

    Assists with educating all staff in the market with the ability to talk about what the AHA is doing to reach diverse audiences within said community.

  • Work collaboratively with development staff partners and volunteers to identify, cultivate and secure and renew sponsors for relevant campaigns, driving to specific sponsorship goal with development team.

    Support the achievement of the unrestricted field campaign through health asset sponsorships/activations and other means.

  • Proactively engages staff, volunteers and external corporate partners to share information and expertise to achieve common goals.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three (3) years progressive experience in community health, nutrition, corporate wellness, or equivalent with:
    • Background in corporate wellness, education, public health or other related field.
    • Proven ability to recruit, mobilize and manage volunteers, including C-suite level executives.
    • Demonstrated ability to drive toward and achieve results.
    • Proven ability to create and facilitate wellness presentations and workshops.
    • Effectively manage relationships with the ability to gain trust and demonstrate influence without authority.
    • Proven ability to develop program curriculum and manage complex projects.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Here are some of the preferred skills we are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree may be preferred in supporting the required level of skill, knowledge and experience required.

Demonstrated success in developing proposals and securing of sponsorships, major gifts and foundations funding.

  • Knowledge of corporate and community networks.
  • Knowledge of AHA’s mission and programs.
