Position Overview
NSF’s Sustainability Consulting group enhances the environmental stewardship of companies and their products with services that ensure our clients’ products are safe for consumers and good for the planet.
Our focus includes corporate sustainability advising, climate services, and supply chain assurance services.
Our clients have offices and supply chains all over the world, and our team operates virtually.
The Climate Consultant helps develop business opportunities for and carries out climate consulting work in NSF’s Sustainability Consulting unit.
In this small but nimble unit, the Climate Consultant holds the primary responsibility to support our clients’ climate needs, acting as their partner on the journey to identify, quantify, mitigate and/or improve their climate impacts.
Special emphasis will be placed on the ability to knit together comprehensive climate action plans/strategies and reporting for our clients, including but not limited to: greenhouse gas accounting (all scopes), target setting/science-based targets, identification of emissions mitigation strategies, and reporting of progress from an ESG perspective.
Candidates who can also perform life cycle assessments and water footprints will be preferred.
Utilizing a strong foundation of client relationship management skills, the Climate Consultant will ensure that projects perform to deadline and quality expectations.
They will also bring a curiosity about and ability to convert client challenges into new consulting engagements.
The Climate Consultant is supported by a team of Project Managers to help deliver projects on time and under budget, meeting and exceeding our clients’ expectations.
Key Accountabilities
The Climate Consultant’s responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Greenhouse Gas Accounting: Perform inventory of Scopes 1, 2, & 3 emissions for simple and complex domestic or global supply chains.
Climate Targets: Identify emissions or other climate-related targets for clients, including Science-Based Targets.
Climate Strategy Development: Develop strategies, emissions reductions tactics and/or action plans to help companies meet climate targets like Net Zero.
ESG Reporting: Help clients prepare or verify information for CDP Disclosures, Science Based Targets, or other reporting systems that disclose climate efforts.
Client and Project Development: Identify, develop and convert opportunities for new client engagements with NSF sustainability consulting services.
Client Relationships: Nurture client relationships through responsive communications, high-quality on-time deliverables, and impactful presentations.
Tools and Efficiencies: Contribute to improving unit profitability by building or improving tools and IP that deliver on consistent workstreams.
Internal Relationships and Systems: Participate in building a sense of team, accountability, and accomplishment by engaging in team meetings, updates, and/or cross-sector initiatives inside NSF.
Required Qualifications
Candidate must possess a Certification or Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field (i.e.
Sustainability, Environmental Studies, etc.) 5+ years of experience delivering climate consulting services Can manage complex Scope 1-3 GHG calculations
Preferred Skills And Abilities
Master of Sustainability or another advanced degree Can conduct life cycle assessments and familiar with GaBi or SoFi software Familiar with and able to calculate water footprints Experienced with climate-related reporting, including CDP, TCFD, or DJSI Knowledgeable about regenerative agriculture and systems Proven experience to identify and convert new client projects Enjoys building new systems and tools to accelerate results, standardize approaches and ensure quality outputs Ability to distill large amounts of information into concise technical findings, using exceptional analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills Proven experience simultaneously managing project workflows, multiple priorities, deadlines, and client relationships Able to recognize limitations in skills and ability to deliver Speaks English at native or advanced level Proven ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a remote team environment across multiple seniority levels with minimal supervision Actively models NSF core values: We demand the highest ethics and integrity.
