Job DescriptionAbout This Role This position provides Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) support to Biogen’s Cambridge operations, which includes R& D laboratory operations.
In this role, you will act as Biosafety Officer responsible for EHS program management with a focus on Biosafety, Occupational Health, and general laboratory safety.
As a member of the Cambridge EHS team, you will work closely with peers, manager, client groups, and Corporate EHS to implement EHS programs in accordance with the Global EHS Policy and Management System.
What You’ll Do In this role, you will develop and implement EHS programs as assigned and drive continuous improvement efforts aimed at managing EHS risks.
Primary duties are listed below:
· Act as Biosafety Officer (BSO) responsible for managing the implementation and continuous improvements to the Biosafety Program including facilitating the Cambridge Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) and performing Biosafety Risk Assessments.
· Serve as a primary point of contact and subject matter expert for the function on significant matters relating to EHS policies and programs (Biosafety, IACUC, Vivarium Safety, Controlled Substances, Animal Allergies, and Respiratory Protection).
· Provide EHS Program leadership o Maintain awareness of EHS regulations and completes EHS compliance activities o Create and develop relationships with internal and external clients o Develop, implement, and continuously improve written programs o Develop EHS training materials and deliver classroom and on-the-job training o Lead incident investigations, root cause determinations, and identification of corrective and preventative actions o Conduct EHS inspections, document findings, work with area owners to implement corrective actions, and communicate results o Participate in EHS stakeholder engagement events and activities o Provide EHS review and guidance related to new equipment, engineering/construction projects, as well as relevant maintenance activities o Participate in emergency response, including on-call Additional Manager Responsibilities:
· Oversee outsourced Occupational Health program to ensure contract deliverables are met including medical surveillance, occupational injury management, recordkeeping/reporting, vaccination clinics, medical emergency response team, body fluid donor program, consultation, and wellness support
· Lead risk assessment evaluations to ensure the identification of high risks and associated risk reduction corrective actions
· Champion large projects and initiatives, including cross functional groups and external partners and organizations

· 6+ of EHS experience OR relevant experience (inclusive of Military experience)
· Bachelor’s degree OR commensurate experience (inclusive of Military experience)
· Experience implementing EHS programs including BiosafetyManager, EHS (Biosafety Officer)
· 8+ of EHS experience OR relevant experience (inclusive of Military experience)
· B.S.
in life sciences, environmental field or another related field required
· Extensive experience implementing EHS programs including Biosafety Preferred Skills
· Advanced interpersonal skills focused on collaboration, innovation, and inclusion
· Experienced presenter and speaker; excellent writing skills
· Previous EHS related work experience in Biopharma field desired
· Experience with interacting with external regulatory agencies desired
· Understanding of EHS management systems
· Professional certification (Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist, Certified Health Physicist, Certified Biosafety Professional)
