DepartmentIT ServicesAbout the DepartmentIT Services collaborates with campus partners to support the mission of the University of Chicago through the consistent delivery of high-quality solutions and services.Job InformationJob Summary:This position directs the development, maintenance and production support of applications and systems supporting Alumni Development, Campus & Student Life, Communications, Research Administration, Financial Services and Facilities Services. Accountable for the data services, website development, and consolidated reporting provided by the central IT organization. Provides leadership and vision for business solutions, develops the business case for investing in them, maintains responsive and accountable services, and manages a budget model that draws on operating funds, recharge revenue, and capital funding to promote sustainable long-term excellence. Oversees the Project Management Office and Business Analysis Organization focused on improving project delivery and success. Maintains effective and collaborative relationships with functional leaders, partnering to develop technology road-maps that support their strategic missions. Evaluates and recommends organizational changes, professional development and other training plans to align staff skills and capabilities with the strategic road-maps. Assists with process development, project management, business analysis, research, and communication on a wide range of enterprise application and IT services. Coordinates special projects and strategic priorities. Leads and facilitates compliance with IT Services policy and procedures.Responsibilities:* Team and Systems Management – collaborating with functional leadership, create annual development plans for each major system under director’s purview; contribute to developing IT Services high level goals and manage resources to achieve goals; develop department goals aligned with IT Services and institutional priorities; oversee development of professional development plans for staff; oversee and participate in performance management of staff; and work collaboratively with other IT departments to accomplish unit and department objectives.* Stakeholder Engagement – represent IT Services as liaison to Financial Services, HR Services & Payroll, University Research Administration, Facilities Services, Campus & Student Life, Alumni Development and other Administrative and Academic Offices; build effective working relationships with colleagues across IT Services; work effectively with and through institutional governance to facilitate prioritization and build capacity through effective workload management; and develop effective relationships with distributed IT staff and leadership.* Planning and Project Management – identify issues impacting the successful completion of the Assistant Vice President’s commitments; assist with front-line trouble shooting and problem solving; collaborate with IT Services Senior and Operational Leadership teams on planning, executing, and management of ITS projects; and coordinate projects or commitments and direct reports including special projects.* Participation in Divisional Initiatives such as the Operational Leadership Group, ARD Level 2 Working Group, AIS Leadership Team, EAS Leadership Team and other committees as required.* Performs other related work as needed.Competencies:* Track record of attracting, hiring, managing and retaining top quality staff and management required.* Strong change management and leadership skills plus the ability to implement new systems and redesign work processes required.* Financial and operational management experience, particularly for a complex, central service provider that supports a highly decentralized and diverse portfolio required.* Demonstrated experience directing and managing within a challenging environment and working inclusively through people to achieve shared objectives required.* Energy, tact, conviction, flexibility, and excellent communication skills plus the other intangible attributes necessary to succeed in a complex, fast-moving, top-tier University required.* Strategic Agility – anticipate future consequences and trends accurately;
