This position is located in the central Office of Sponsored Programs.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Sponsored Programs, assists in defining and directing the workflow for the pre-award grant and contract processes within the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP).

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Assists in the development and monitoring of OSP operational processes and procedures for pre-award research functions.
  • Assists OSP analysts, university customers and external agencies with questions and works to solve problems related to grant and contract proposals or awards.
  • Assists in the development of OSP operational processes and procedures for pre-award research functions.
  • Assists in managing, hiring, training and evaluating selected OSP staff.
  • Handles complex grant or contract proposals, negotiations or awards as needed.
  • Maintains limited departmental and contractual workload to assist with the OSP proposal/award volume and to keep current with day-to-day issues.
  • Reviews, signs and/or submits proposal and award documents.

    Identifies new regulations involving grants administration and assists in the preparation of compliance procedures resulting from new federal/state/institutional regulations or policies.

  • Identifies training needs for OSP analysts, University customers and departments and assists in the development and conduct of training sessions as required.
  • Creates or assists with the development of reports as needed.

    Promotes team-building and positive work attitude within the OSP office, and between OSP and other university research offices and departments.

  • Performs other related responsibilities as required.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

Emory training this position requires within the employee’s first month of employment:

  • Employee will be trained using OSP’s standard on-boarding process.

    EPEX training to allow access will be needed in the first month.

  • Additional Emory training this position requires within the employee’s first six months of employment: Employee will be trained using OSP’s standard on-boarding process.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business management, applied science or related field and seven years of research administration experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Certified Research Administrator preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of pre-award research administration in an academic environment.
  • Previous management/supervisory experience required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prior central research administration office experience and managerial experience desired.
  • Employee will work two days in office and telecommute the other days.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University location as needed.
