Application Development Manager

Canal Insurance Company

This is a Full-time position in Greenville, AL posted January 2, 2022.

Job Summary: The Application Development Manager is responsible for leading the software development team in the design and delivery of enterprise solutions.

They will be responsible for the team’s delivery of secure and scalable custom applications, integrations, and the configuration/maintenance of third-party commercial software applications.

The candidate will also be responsible for the mentoring and leading of the team, including team member development and performance.

The ideal candidate has a blend of software development experience, project management experience, and an excellent track record of leading people. 

Major Accountabilities:

  • Lead the design and development of software solutions
  • Coordinate implementation, deployment, and maintenance activities
  • Assist in the development of project plans and track progress against established project milestones
  • Provide supervision, coaching and counseling to assigned staff
  • Facilitate a culture of continuous improvement and efficiency to the development, delivery, monitoring, and support processes
  • Research and institute relevant tools, technologies, and processes
  • Collaborate and communicate cross functionally with Business Analysts, Project Managers, Infrastructure, Database Administrators, Quality Assurance, and stakeholders
  • Assign daily tasks to team members in support of test plan execution

Qualifications:

Education/Training Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in business, computer science, engineering or related field, or related years of experience

Experience/Specialized Skills:

Required

  • 3-5 years of technical lead / management experience in an application development setting
  • 5+ years of experience with backend technologies (e.g., C#, .Net Core, RESTful service development, SQL/T-SQL)
  • Strong understanding of development best practices, design patterns, and standards, and how to apply them
  • Exceptional problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strong understanding of software delivery life cycle
  • Ability to build positive relationships and partnerships within department, across the organization, and with external partners
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to function in a fast paced, highly visible, and changing environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly present ideas to a variety of technical and non-technical audiences
  • Working understanding of Git (pull, push, add, commit, clone, etc.)
  • Ability to lead, mentor, and motivate team members

Preferred

  • Understanding of DevOps processes and concepts including Version Control, CI/CD pipeline, orchestration, configuration management
  • Understanding of Cloud delivery methods including application containerization concepts
  • Knowledge of cloud application architecture including PaaS, Microservices, DBaaS, etc.
  • Strong understanding of secure development techniques including authentication, validation, encryption, Secure APIs, Logging, error handing, etc.

Special Considerations:

Physical Requirements: Constant use of vision, hearing, and communication (oral and written in person and via telephone).

Frequent concentration, standing, walking, handling, reaching, and grasping.

Occasional bending, kneeling and lifting (up to 25 lbs.) Heavy use of computer and office equipment.

Travel/Hours of Service: Occasional travel may be required.

Periodic work outside of standard business hours or on weekends may be required.
