Apply today and PennDOT will train you to become a Transportation Equipment Operator As a leading organization in the maintenance of Pennsylvania’s Highways, the Department of Transportation, Lehigh County Maintenance Organization, is seeking to fill vacancies for full-time CDL Equipment Operator Trainees to support the maintenance of the county highway and bridge systems.
Join the Lehigh County Team with this exciting career opportunity DESCRIPTION OF WORK This is a full-time six-month trainee position where the trainee acquires the appropriate commercial licensure for the Transportation Equipment Operator A classification, becomes certified on a minimum number of pieces of equipment for the assigned work site, and becomes acclimated to the departments work rules, safety policies, and local reporting procedures.
As a member of the highway maintenance crew, operators perform a variety of manual laboring duties and operate equipment used for construction and maintenance work.
Operators will plow snow, make minor repairs to equipment, and provide preventive maintenance for the trucks and equipment, in addition to other duties as necessary.

Work Schedule Monday
– Friday 7:00 a.m.
to 3:00 p.m.
Lunch break: 30 minutes Travel, overtime and shift work will be required based upon operational considerations.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY Possession of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver’s License or equivalent is required.
Must possess an active Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver Learner’s Permit on the first day of work.
Must possess an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations by the first day of work.
Certain positions in this job require employees to demonstrate successful operation of equipment with a manual transmission.
