The Pavement Engineer manages the pavement design functions for the department.
This person provides a focal point for technical expertise as well as recommendations for policy, procedures, and implementation in areas that affect pavement design and performance.As the Pavement Engineer you will:+ Perform pavement designs for new and rehabilitated pavements that meet the state’s design and performance criteria.+ Conduct economic analysis for identification of the most cost-effective pavement type for a given paving project.+ Utilize the economic analyses in the pavement type selection process and make recommendations to the Pavement Design/Pavement Management Engineer on pavement type for all pavement replacement projects.+ Provide technical guidance and make recommendations on the design, rehabilitation, and maintenance of pavements for the department.+ Work with the DOT Districts to review project details and recommend appropriate rehabilitation techniques+ Serve as the technical contact for agencies within the state that need assistance in the areas of pavement design, evaluation, and analysis.
This includes working with the Local Systems Bureau as well as the cities, counties and consultants in helping them understand techniques that are available to help them build, maintain or repair their pavements.+ Have strong communication skills to provide direction and consultation to numerous internal and external customers.
This person must be able to read and comprehend written materials, technical literature, and specifications.Special requirements: Possess & maintain a Professional Engineers license in the State of Iowa (new employees must gain reciprocity within six months of hire if registered in other states).
