Teacher I- Ivy Head Start (Fresno)

This is a Full-time position in Fresno, CA posted February 13, 2021.

* * * TRANSCRIPTS MUST BE UPLOADED IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION * * *SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESTeacher Assistant(s) as assigned.Limits of Authority:Able to implement with little supervision the standards mandated by Head Start Program Performance Standards and Community Care Licensing.SUMMARYResponsible for the educational development of each child in the class in accordance with established curriculum and Head Start policy and philosophy.Assist in achieving the agency’s vision, “For Those We Serve,” by empowering individuals who thrive as healthy, self-sufficient and contributing members of our communities.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESServes as classroom teacher to facilitate each child’s growth in the key areas of social, emotional and cognitive development and cultural awareness by assessing each child’s and development and cultural awareness by assessing each child’s development and developing a program of study, which meets the child’s individual needs.

To this end, each teacher will be responsible for:A.

Completion of assessments on an on-going basis.B.

Preparation of an individualized plan for each child based on assessments and observations of the child.C.

Conferring with each parent three times throughout the year to discuss his/her child’s growth and development, and establish school readiness goals.D.

Ensuring that the special needs of children with disabilities are being met appropriately.

This includes active involvement in implementing goals noted in the child’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) or Special Services Plan (SSP).Provides a safe and healthy environment as required by Community Care Licensing regulations and Head Start Performance Standards.Provides appropriate visual supervision of children at all times.Creates an inviting and stimulating learning environment in an appropriately clean, healthy and safe condition with regular parent input.Directly supervises and evaluates the assigned Teacher Assistant(s).Assists with the supervision of the other Teacher Assistant(s) in regard to their classroom performance.Trains the assigned Teacher Assistant(s), allowing and encouraging participation in activity planning and program implementation with input from supervisor.

Encourages the Teacher Assistant(s) to learn and participate in all classroom, record-keeping and planning procedures.Posts each Friday for the following week a Weekly Activity Plan in accordance with Fresno EOC Head Start’s curriculum.Makes required home visits to each child’s home at indicated periods during the school year, one of which must be prior to child entering program.Prepares required records accurately and submit reports as required in a timely manner.Provides a safe and healthy environment as required by Community Care Licensing regulations and Head Start Performance Standards.Assist in the preparation, service and clean-up of meals and snacks.Serves as a bus monitor, as assigned.Serves as a substitute for other Teachers classrooms, if needed.Occasionally will be required to work at additional centers/classrooms outside of usual assigned center.Attends all staff, in-service meetings and required trainings/workshops.Participates in Individual Education Plan (IEP) process for all Head Start children.Adheres to the American with Disabilities Act (ADA-2010) which prohibits discriminatory actions toward children and/or adult with disabilities.

In particular, children with disabilities are enrolled in the classroom as mandated by Federal Law.Maintains strict compliance with universal precautions in the classroom or during home visits and when administering first aid.Maintains confidentiality of records and information on Head Start staff, children and families.Promote parent/family engagement in various program activities, such as volunteering in the classroom, family/child home activities, attending program workshops & meetings, etc.Travels for agency business using personal/agency vehicle.Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.May work evenings and weekends as required.Performs other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.EDUCATION:Teacher I:High School graduate or GED.AA/AS degree in Child Development/ECE or related field, both with minimum of 24 CD/ECE units.Must have 2 adult supervision units or enroll/complete within the next 12 months of employment.EXPERIENCE:Teacher I:18 working months pre-school teaching experience.OTHER REQUIREMENTS:Bilingual in English/Spanish or English/Hmong/Lao or others as required.Maintain a valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation and adequate auto insurance as required by State law.

Proof of insurance will be required.Physical examination, TB screening clearance and signed federal criminal record declaration are required within 7 days after employment.Immunized against influenza (flu), pertussis (whooping cough) and measles.

The influenza vaccination must be obtained annually during flu season, August 1 through December 1.

A person is exempt from the immunization requirements for the following circumstances:1.

The person submits a written statement from a licensed physician declaring that because of the person’s physical condition or medical circumstances, the immunization is not safe.2.

The person submits a written statement from a licensed physician providing that the person has evidence of current immunity to pertussis (whooping cough) and/or measles.3.

The person submits in writing declaration that he or she has declined the influenza (flu) vaccination.

This exemption only applies to the influenza (flu) vaccine.Fingerprint clearance under Title 22 regulations, and criminal record statement, background checks as needed, and reference checks are required prior to employment.Infant/Child CPR/First Aid certification with at least 15 hours of training on preventive health practices required within 6 months of employment.Former Head Start/Early Head Start parents preferred.Employment in Head Start is contingent upon approval of the County Wide Policy Council.PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
