Teacher Assistant / Upper Elementary

AHB Community School (http://www.ahbcs.org), an independent, progressive K-8 school in Austin, TX, is looking for a Teacher’s Assistant to work in our mixed-age grade 4-5 classroom. For the right candidate, there is potential for this position to grow into a full teaching role.

Qualifications

Required: Bachelor?s degree, experience working with children

Preferred: Bachelor?s degree in education or a related field, 3+ years of classroom teaching or related experience, Math specialist, current teacher?s license (or equivalent), experience in progressive education school settings.

Responsibilities:

• Assist in implementing quality instruction that encourages students to be actively engaged in the learning process. Deliver instruction and support to small groups or individuals as advised by the lead teacher.
• Help maintain a positive classroom environment with a high regard for social-emotional learning that ensures growth and engagement for all students.
• Collaborate with the lead teacher to help plan and prepare materials for skill-based lessons and interdisciplinary thematic projects.
• Collaborate and communicate effectively with lead teacher, students, parents, faculty, and administrators to ensure a high level of learning for all students, support the home to school connection, foster positive community relationships and serve as a positive AHB ambassador.
• Perform professional duties efficiently, manage resources effectively, and meet deadlines set by the school.

Reports to: Head of School

Contract, Duty, and Compensation: Hourly position during the school calendar year to begin mid-August: 24-28 hours per week, 4-day week (M-Th); school year Aug-May (35 weeks of paid duty, 6 weeks of unpaid school breaks/holidays during the school year); salary dependent on experience.
