The Special Education Teacher: Demonstrates knowledge of the nature and needs of exceptional children, normal developmental processes, curriculum development and programming, psychodynamic and behavioral management skills, psycho-educational assessment and special education record keeping and monitoring tools for children in grades 6-12 identified as having an emotional disability.

Shown the ability to teach middle and high school English utilizing a variety of approaches/methods that address the individual’s and groups’ needs.

Proven capacity to identify concerns and needs of parents of children with emotional and multiple areas of difficulty as part of an ongoing therapeutic process.

Demonstrates skills in oral and written presentation of diagnostic findings, progress reports, anecdotal records, development of behavioral goals and objectives for individual educational plans and weekly lesson plans.

Able to work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary team by being open and responsive to other’s input.

Qualified candidates must possess: Hold a Bachelors degree; Masters degree preferred.

Hold a valid MSDE teacher certificate or be eligible to receive one.

Must have experience teaching students with special education needs in the area of academic, clinical, and behavioral exceptionalities.
