Position Summary: The Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing educational services to children and adolescents in a special education full-time emotional support classroom.
The Special Education Teacher’s responsibilities include educational assessment, school behavioral assessment, academic programming and regulatory documentation.
Unit Specific Performance Objectives 1.
Completes educational assessments within specified time period and communicates results appropriately.
2.
Reassess educational needs and educational strategies as needed and/or directed.
3.
Adheres to treatment plans and participates in treatment team meetings as requested.
4.
Supervises classroom and maintains a positive environment for learning.
5.
Plans, implements, and monitors educational programs, and makes recommendations regarding appropriate improvements.
6.
Completes due process requirements (CER
– Comprehensive Educational Reports, IEP
– individual educational plans, NORA
– Notice of Recommended Assignment, Invitation and Procedural Safeguards) for enrolled students.
7.
Identifies the potential for crisis situations, intervenes as necessary, and assumes the lead in resolving conflicts.
8.
Discusses and debriefs incidents and problem solves with students.9.
Engages in de-escalation techniques to avoid power struggles and incidents.
10.
Interacts with students positively and supportively.
11.
Develops or assists with the development of educational aftercare plans.
12.
Develops or assists with the development of school curricula.
13.
Act as liaison with student’s home school district
– gathers pertinent educational documents and facilitates transition.
14.
Identifies group and individual goals and objectives and monitors/documents progress.
15.
Implements individual and group behavior modification and incentive strategies.
16.
Provides feedback and training to Teacher’s Aides.
17.
Problem solves and plans strategies with Teacher’s Aides to support student development.
18.
Participates in own performance process.
19.
Possesses knowledge of age specific growth and development.
20.
Maintains competence in identified universal, core and critical competencies.
21.
Performs other duties as requested.
Job Requirements: 1.
Bachelors degree in Special Education.
2.Valid Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate in Special Education.
3.Experience preferred.
4.TCI (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention) certification must be maintained to include annual refresher.
5.CPR certification renewed bi-annually or upon expiration of certification.
5.Must be knowledgeable of the developmental stages and behaviors for age group of assigned clients 6.
Maintains competence in identified universal, core and critical competencies.
7.
Valid Act 34/34 clearances 8.Must meet job competencies within 90 days of hire.
