POSITION SUMMARY:

The Sugarbush Ski & Ride School is seeking Ski and Snowboard Instructors for the 21/22 winter season. We are looking for enthusiastic instructors and coaches who are dedicated to sharing their passion for snow sports with others and continuing their own development in the process. Full and part-time positions are available.

Our guiding principles are “safety, fun, and learning” – for our guests and staff alike. Our instructors teach both children and adults and are assigned lesson levels based on their demonstrated technical and teaching skills. A range of non-teaching responsibilities is a necessary part of all instructors’ work, including attending regular training and generally assisting us in creating exceptional guest experiences throughout the resort.

While we have a preference for applicants with experience teaching skiing and riding, we welcome applicants who are new to ski and snowboard instructing, particularly those with transferable skills from other pursuits and professions. Successful candidates ski or ride at an intermediate level or above and demonstrate exceptional communication skills. A team-oriented, welcoming, and professional personality is a necessity. Preference is given to instructors with PSIA /AASI, USSA, and USASA certification.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Understand your daily schedule.
  • Be on time at the correct location and in uniform.
  • To make responsible decisions regarding terrain selection, teaching practices, and equipment for the different levels you may work with
  • To be able to identify each guests learning style.
  • To make a connection with the guest.
  • Be knowledgeable about the resort and community.
  • Be positive.
  • Keep yourself and the guest safe.
  • Create awareness of the mountain environment
  • Encourage the guest to come back
  • Check tickets and collect when appropriate.
  • Attend training sessions devoted to safety and service
  • Attend weekly staff meeting
  • Have equipment safety checked by authorized resort personnel at the beginning of the season.
  • Greet guests as they enter the resort or meeting place area.
  • Attend skiing/riding improvement training sessions.
  • Keep equipment tuned and in good shape.
  • Attend to personal payroll paperwork.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school education is required. A degree in Education, Sports Education, Business or Recreation Management is preferred.
  • PSIA/AASI Level I, Level II or Level III Certification is preferred. USSA Certifications preferred.
  • Prior ski racing, freestyle background is a plus.
  • Considerations give to uncertified candidates with good skiing/riding skills, good communications skills, and enthusiasm for the sport with a passion for passing that on to others.
  • Ability and desire to be part of a team
  • Applicants will be hired in a conditional status pending successful completion of an On Snow Assessment to determine appropriate ski/ride ability for the job
